Weekly poll: Poco F2 Pro costs more than the original but does more too - is it worth it?

17 May 2020
The F1 launched at €330, this one starts at €500. Even so, it's the cheapest S865-powered phone available globally.

Its much more worth the price than LG Velvet or Apple SE2 and many other phones from other brands where half the price is made by brand name.

Every mid-range device wants to be a flagship-killer nowadays. This will not help selling devices. Bring 300$ devices with mid range specs, which also means SMALLER screens - that's all you need to do.
Half of all my friend's phones are now in their 4th or 5th year of usage, simply because phones got bigger than 5". You read that right, 5"! Entry level phones are 5,5-6", midrange devices 2020 means typically 6,4", while flagships are 6,4-6,9". I don't talk about my personal prefference here, Android customers buy their first iPhone now, since the SE is 4,7". Android is missing out on alot of customers because of this. Why produce 3 phones sized 6,4" instead of creating a 5,5", a 6,0" and a 6,7" device? What's the problem with this?

It's still too pricey. There are phones that supports 5G, and still affordable. Try this with a mediaTek chipset. Better performance plus cheaper.

Nicolas F, 17 May 2020Again, stupid poll; Poco F2 Pro is bad not because of its p... more...ok so let me ask the real questions?

If you want a phone with sd855 or 4g...why don't u just go buy one from last year. you are still obviously able to buy a mi 9t pro which is a spiritual inbetween poco f1 and poco f2?

next, if you talk about 5g deployment thats a region bias statement. India not having 5g til 2022...sure but wait isn't this quoted in euros, maybe its best to consider 5g in europe. As far as I'm aware development is happening, now in Austria here, there is plenty of 5G development advertisement.

mediatek's SoC isn't taking off due to Stigma of using one. right now you get people saying dimensity 1k is great which is true. But you will also get the similar people saying never ever mediatek? and the crowd that accepts a snapdragon is generally the majority?

if you want a 4G phone the web is full of them.

poco did a rebrand? well would you rather have another plastic phone like last time, i mean f1 had a terrible lcd panel and the glass used was pretty bad.

120hz is the better option? mate i reckon people would prefer an samsung amoled over a 120hz lcd panel anyday for fact is most people don't care for it.

with a massive upgrade to the vibration motor compared to the k30 and f1, its such a better experience. I mean sorry if its not in your price range? Simply there are phones for that from a bunch of companies including the one here poc..sorry red...sorry xiaomi. These subbranding is really just them trying to split the segments of the mobile market.

Finally, if you have 5 mins to read about the phone and then read any of this, then you should also know there is a shift in xiaomi product strategy. Mi line from 10 is now a high end marlet device, redmi in china takes place of that hogh end spec budget phone. globally its still budget, poco takes that spot globally.....

TLDR: Not really sure what you guys and girls expect? things cost more over time, #cost #inflation #competition (go buy the one you think it's worth your money)

It seems like the biggest reason Xiaomi went for this one is to be able to brag about the title "the cheapest phone with SD 865".Everthing else can be found on Redmi K30 for half the price or even on a 200euro RN Note 9 Pro...

They didn't need to use the best Snapdragon processor. The Mediatek dimensity 1000 could have been a far cheaper option. At its price point there are just too many options available for just a little more or older flagships that have better hardware except for the processor.

The generational leap in specifications is well worthy of the price point and it is a worthy successor of original F1. The only bargain however is the 60 Hz refresh rate as poco is supposed to offer every thing that has gone mainstream at a reasonable price and high refresh rate is one of them. I would any day choose a SD855+ with 90 Hz or more than a SD865 with 60 Hz and its logical if u see ( where would I apply the extra performance gained?). So I feel poco should really put more attention in future proofing thier smartphones if they wish to remain the the Best Buy King

There's another way to make it a bit cheaper - just make it smaller. Use 6.3" screen, with 4000 mAh battery. Less materials used, lower price.

People are being unrealistic, loosing 5G means using the older sd855, and while I have no problem with (I even suggested it as an alternative before), most people would be complaining, especially those now complaining about the price, plus the f2 is nothing like the f1 when it comes to build quality, display (which was worst than the XR), and camera sensors.

As a Poco F1 user I am a bit disappointed in this F2. For one it is simply a rebadged Redmi K30 pro. Second it uses the latest chipset which is not the USP of the Poco F1 which was incredible value for money. I would have been happy with a Mediatek Dimensity 1000 chipset instead which would have been comparable to the SD 855 and be future proof as it would support 5G. The 865 is a good chipset for the absolute flagship devices which the Poco is not all about.

Secondly while it has the missing UWA camera that was lacking in the Poco F1 it doesn't have a zoom camera. Even a basic 2x zoom camera could have helped improve the value of this phone.

As it stands there is simply nothing really appealing with this device. At the price point ill happily buy a One Plus 7T with last years 855 chipset, tele, wide and UWA camera, 90 Hz AMOLED screen and smooth Oxygen UI. I bought the Poco F1 since it was cheaper than the One Plus 6. But the One Plus 6 was real smooth, much more so than my Poco F1. For the same price ill choose One Plus over MI.

Anonymous, 17 May 2020S10 lite is the best option at this price range.S10 Lite is much worse, with much weaker SoC (~30% less powerful, >20% less thermal efficiency), weaker camera system (smaller sensors, cheaper lenses), worse builder quality, just like a typical Samsung mid-ranger.
