While the Mediatek Launched with it is still stuck at Marshmellow MIUI with heating issues & lagging, Snapdragon varient is still running fine on an Android 10 with a Custom Kernel without many bugs, lags, heating. An Android phone with security updates lasting 5 years without any repairs or battery change is pretty good deal.
MIUI issue is over time the time Flash memory gets so bloated that you need to wipe it clean to get speed, most people just resets it causing slower performance and lags, and the default kernel is efficient but poor in performance. Mi Android One kernels are just oozing battery too. These issues are fixable in Snapdragon varient but not in Mediatek closed source, especially with Xiaomi devices. Check out Redmi Note 8 Pro groups, the issues are still not fixed. The devices just doesn't last longer if kernel is closed and borked and most Mediatek driver are closed and comes prioritising performance over efficiency but with a lazy scheduler.

In your case a global rom ... moreNot really a big deal, most phone comes in global ROM, Mipad4 is probably the only exception since it is only sold in China officially. I would be happy to use stock if they have global ROM. And its only a minority that use custom ROM, so not really a big deal.

I would gladly use Mipad4 stock ROM if it comes in global version. And even with snapdragon in Mipad4 which is barely 2 years, quite a number of developesr have already stopped updating their ROM. Its just with more phones coming out at faster frequency, don't expect to see as many support for custom ROM as compared to few years ago.

Especially considering that MediaTek recently got cheating them with their G series chips. Antutu scores are easily manipulated by GPU, RAM and storage. Testing these things independently gives a better idea of what to expect rather than the highest total number.

They just need to consistently publish their source code.

But if you're running a custom rom on a Mi Pad 4, that device is way less than 5 years old. With MTK you'd probably have been out in the cold. To put things in perspective... I have a tablet with an MTK SoC that was released in 2017. Lineage OS 12.1 (Android 5.1) was released in September 2019. Why Android 5.1? That's the only publicly released sources for this SoC. These are the kind of issues custom rom users should expect with these chips.

Any benchmark's score won't be very precise and it won't be definitive, but it still delivers a fair reflect of how a chip would perform IRL. that's why they exist, so stop with this "In real life" this chip will be better or that chip will be better. You have the choice : either believe benchmarks and have an idea about chipsets rankings, or ditch them and throw random guesses to rank those chips. you choose.

Only used custom for Mipad4 due it only available in CN ROM. I don't see much benefit of custom ROM now due to hardware and OS getting so much better.
Less time spend looking for better ROM or ROM upgrade, more time spend enjoying the phone.
