.
Remember XZ Premium review article from 3 years ago? It still holds the record of the most-commented review article at 1228 comments. Even Nokia N8's review comments are short of 498 comments at 730 comments LOL.

Thank you sony for keeping 3.5mm headphone jack.
As a creator and someone who enjoy musics, headphone jack is indispensible!

Telephone, 28 May 2020It wasn't an analogy, I was just trying to say that if you ... moreyou are definitely different type of consumer...
somehow i am more of that type too...
some people are too keen on price...
thinking that all phones fit in the same version of hardware... and just tweak little at the software...
so for phones having the same soc, same rom, ram... they would choose the "lowest price" not realizing that the phones still gives different experience...
then there are those consumers who choose base on what they want regardless of price...
i think i am between, but want no compromises... that is why i love price cuts... on xperia and lg at least
most people cant understand "options" for different kind of consumer...

Android Master, 28 May 20201080p or 4k video when it first came to smartphones also ha... moreI believe h.265 was meant to decrease the file size by lowering bit rate. There is much better visuals on h.265 at same bit rate compared to h.264.
But because of how codec compresses data, doesn't it require alot more processing power than h.264 for the same quality capture? (I heard its 10x, but that's the past)

Anonymous, 28 May 2020No. There is no first generation excuse.
Samsung chose ... more1080p or 4k video when it first came to smartphones also had lower bitrates compared to current bitrates for 1080p and 4k.
Also S20U does 4k30 at 45mbps with h.265 codec as opposed to h.264.
Was your 2015 Xperia or any phone from 2015 shooting in h.265 codec?
Stop whining and go use open camera or others for higher bitrate.

Android Master, 28 May 2020Well it's 8k in the first generation.
It's a first on phon... moreNo. There is no first generation excuse.
Samsung chose lower 8K bitrate because of heat.
Phone would never handle like 8K 180Mbps.
Canon camera does 4k@30 with more than 300Mbps while most phones do not even do 50.
My 2015 Xperia does 4K30 at 54Mbps.
S20 Ultra does 4K30 with less than 45.

Android Master, 28 May 2020Problem with your anology is assuming that those 90k plus p... moreIt wasn't an analogy, I was just trying to say that if you pay more for the device you want, you may be happier.
OP8 will get the job done for me, but its not the phone I want. If I only had the option to get OP8, I will get it. But there are other options, and I want the other options.
For other devices, I am totally fine spending less for good quality. I recently got a cheap robot vacuum from Eufy (anker) for half the price of one with the same performance (iRobot). Reason I spent less, I could care less about brands for vacuum robots. I just wanted it to get the job done.
Phones are a bit different for me, They are my personal objects and I use them every day. So I prefer to have a device that will give me a smile every day. Same with my cars. (driving to work with a smile is better than driving with stress)

Rameyuk, 27 May 2020I dunno.. it depends on how you justify them. For me, I use... moreI don't buy chinese phones, but I think it's still overpriced. I got a note 10+ (and it's an awesome device with SD 855) for about 800, so that's what I would think it's fair for this sony too. Maybe later when the price comes down, it will be a great buy

Telephone, 28 May 2020I understand it may be wiser to get the best bang for buck ... moreProblem with your anology is assuming that those 90k plus phones are much better than OP8 pro which they are not. In many departments, OP8 pro is way better.
You cant compare Honda civic to Subaru racing Gt. Huge difference.
But you can easily compare OP8 pro to those other flagship mobiles.
No one here in India dying to buy Xperia 1 II over some other choices nor will they be dissatisfied with choosing OP8 pro over Xperia 1 II.
I know some ppl who'll buy Samsung blindly at expensive price but definitely no one doing that by importing Xperia 1 II.

Android Master, 28 May 2020Man nobody cares about who has R&D or not.
End consum... moreI understand it may be wiser to get the best bang for buck phone in some countries (or based on you income). But if you had the money to buy whatever phone you wanted, wouldn't you want to get the phone that you will enjoy?
I know I will be fine with cheaper flagships, but I wouldn't be satisfied.
When I bought my first car, I didn't have much money, so I got the 1997 Honda civic. It got the job done, but it wasn't enjoyable to drive. Now I have a 2005 Subaru Legacy GT (my dream car), modified engine tuned at 364 horsepower. Insanely fun to drive. yet so sleeper that no police will pull you over. (car looks slow, but its not)

Shanti Dope, 28 May 2020Really? Then why don't we improve the bit rate of the S20 U... moreWell it's 8k in the first generation.
It's a first on phones in 2020.
1080p or 4k video when it first came to smartphones also had lower bitrates compared to current bitrates for 1080p and 4k.
Allow it to flex its muscles with higher bitrate out of the box in the upcoming years.
Till then use a third party app to increase bitrate.

Shanti Dope, 28 May 2020For a phone that doesn't even invest into R&D, having t... moreMan nobody cares about who has R&D or not.
End consumers are not going to pay 90k for iPhone, Samsung, Motorola, Sony or LG when you can get another equivalent flagship which is better in many departments like the OP8 pro for under 60k.
In my country,
S20U (Exynos) - 95k and above
S20+ (Exynos) - 77k
Iphone 11 Pro Max - 111k
Motorola Edge+ - 75k
OP8 pro - 55k
Find X2 pro & Xperia 1 II, Huawei p40 pro, etc. probably won't be launched.
Why would anyone import Sony at 90k and above or buy any of the other mentioned phones when the price gap is so huge? That is exactly what I was telling the concerned user.
It's simply a better deal to invest in OP8 pro when you get to save nearly 250$-500$

Excalibur, 28 May 2020There are always alternatives to the 3.5 mm port... The typ... moreType C to 3.5mm adapters are a waste of money, and you need to have the adapter with you to use 3.5mm. Some are passive adapters, others are active adapters. Active adapters take digital from phone and convert to analog. Most of them sound like garbage. Worthless adapters.
The Type C port is meant to be used as a USB port. It supports mass storage, Display port Alt mode, mouse, keyboard (we will see more desktop mode in the future).
If you have something occupying the Type C port. How are you supposed to connect to the onboard audio via 3.5mm? (adapters with hubs don't count, those are bulky)
Dedicated 3.5mm supports microphone in and audio out. (Xperia 1II can use professional microphones via 3.5mm, doesn't require special type c adapter, plug and play)

Exyvia, 28 May 2020Broke 200 Comments XD Keep it coming LOLIt's not unusual for people to talk about them anyway.
After all, they've been up and running for the longest time than any other brand OEMs that only existed recently, of course with the exception of Samsung and Apple.
This time around I do think Sony is finally getting the more attention that they deserve than last year. Just get many popular YouTubers to review this phone and review it based on the purpose it was intentionally made for, and Sony will return as a player in the smartphone competition once again.
