Sony's latest and greatest is finally in our office.

Android Master, 28 May 2020SD865 can easily handle 150mbps bitrate as evident on the O... moreDifferent category, but obviously the 1 Mk II can also do that.
What's funny is that these unknown brands are actually maximizing the power of the hardware, but the big brands like Samsung is settling for less.

Android Master, 28 May 2020No one cares about bitrates. They can be easily increased ... moreReally? Then why don't we improve the bit rate of the S20 Ultra"s 80Mbps for 8K 24fps? I thought it was simply insufficient for such resolution?

Look, if the phone is capable of handling it, then the manufacturer would simply give it all out and working. Why settle for less anyway, when you know that you can actually do better than that?

Android Master, 28 May 2020It doesn't take a genius to know that it's pointless paying... moreFor a phone that doesn't even invest into R&D, having the phone priced below $1000 is just an easy thing to do.
The Find X2 Pro was obviously the one where Oppo (or BBK Electronics) invested a lot into, so it is priced in the upper end segment of flagship phones, while the OP8 Pro was just a slight redesign and internal variation of that same exact phone, but with OxygenOS instead, so it is indeed going to be a cheaper device.

Anonymous, 27 May 2020Then what is XZ3? Did not come from Sony?More of an experimental product that still looked and worked better than the one it mimicked.
Then they realized that not everyone likes such design philosophy, and went back to basics with flat screen on the Xperia 1.

Anonymous, 27 May 2020Again, why do you need a 3.5mm headphone jack on the phone ... moreAgain, why do you need a 3.5mm headphone jack on the phone to use wired headphones?
-Because wired headphones are far superior in pure quality in comparison to wireless headphones. Not only that, but LDAC, which offers the best wireless audio quality, is only available on Sony phones, so with other phones that have no headphone jack, audio quality is simply abyssmal to be realistic.

Wireless isn't about tangling wires (although that is one benefit), it's about being wire free from your phone.
-Sure I'll use it when I'm outside and walking or riding a vehicle going somewhere. But sometimes I'm simply at home, lying on my bed, and listening to music and wires wouldn't bother me at all, so with the presence of the headphone jack, I can use my thousand dollar wired headphones that sound 100x better than even the best wireless headphones could attain. Not only that, but zero latency audio is a must have for games as well.

Not having to have a wire go from your head to your pocket/desk/wherever. There is obviously some benefit in that.
-And obviously a drawback is there for that. Again, wireless headphones simply can't give off zero latency audio, and that alone makes them a no-go for people that like to play games on their phones. You don't have to charge the headphones either.

But you are not forced to use wireless headphones with these phones, so why are you still complaining about it?
-For this particular phone, we have the choice, but the majority of modern day flagships are getting rid of it entirely for a price that doesn't justify its absence.
Let's stop this mentality of accepting what the electronic companies are telling us consumers the things that we need on their products. We don't owe them anything, and they keep on running their business because of us, so we have all the right to complain and choose a different one when one brand does not meet our standards.
If only people decided to stop buying the iPhones when they first removed the jack, then Apple would've realized that far earlier and would've been forced to bring it back eventually to keep their sales running high. Well, people supported them for that decision,.so Apple thought it was okay to everyone, which is clearly against the will of some people who actually cared about those features.

Anonymous, 27 May 2020H264 has higher bitrate than H265. That is why files are ... moreHmm, okay.
So I believe it is the h.264 codec since it's a pretty high bit rate for a 4K 60fps footage, but that's the main point of having 256GB internal memory anyway, and it is also expandable up to 1TB (if such micro SD card existed, that is).

Anonymous, 28 May 2020No, 1. A resolution of 14 megapixels for a 1/3.4" type sen... moreAgain for people who are interested:

              Sensor diagonal at 70mm = 43.267mm / crop factor = 4.296mm
              Crop factor = 70mm/6.95mm = 10.072
              Sensor area at 70mm field of view = Diagonal² x cos(arctan(3/4)) x sin(arctan(3/4)) = 8.86mm²
              Pixel size = sqrt(8.86mm² / 12000000) = sqrt(8860000 micrometer² / 12000000) = 0.86 micrometer and if the resolution is 12.2 megapixels instead of 12.0, then sqrt(8860000 micrometer² / 12200000) = 0.85 micrometer

That's a very strong argument that you don't get 12 megapixels at 70mm because Sony doesn't produce sensors with 0.85 micrometer pixel size as far as I know.

BliTTzZ, 28 May 2020No, telephoto lens is actually 14 mpx and is cropped down t... moreNo,
                1. A resolution of 14 megapixels for a 1/3.4" type sensor (sensor area between 12 and 13mm²) is mathematically contradictory to a resolution of 12 megapixel at a 70mm field of view with 6.95mm focal length. You would need a higher resolution than 14 megapixels.
                2. I can't find the source and Juan Bagnell isn't an official source
                3. A 70.0mm equivalent field of view (no matter whether a crop or not) with 6.95mm focal length and 12 megapixels is mathematically not possible, if the pixel size is either 0.8 micrometer or 0.9 micrometer. I have calculated that it MUST BE either 0.85 or 0.86 micrometer. The only explanation could be that the lens has a significant amount of distortion, which would change the field of view, but this would be extremely unusal. Sony doesn't produce smartphone sensors with 0.85 micrometer pixel size as far as I know.
