Flashback: Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 fixed past mistakes by choosing Android

24 May 2020
The original Xperia phone ran Windows Mobile. SE was also toying around with Symbian S60. The Xperia X10 would change all that.

What does it mean 'the Sony Ericsson partnership was ending'? The Sony Ericsson partnership became Sony alone because Sony bought the other half from Ericsson, but they are still to this day designed and engineered in Sweden, it says so on the side of my phone's box... Lund, Sweden. As far as I know Sony Mobile (formerly known as Sony Ericsson) recently stopped being separate from Sony, but it's still based in Sweden.

The X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro were really good devices for almost no money back in 2011

This was my 1st ever Android phone after 10 years with Nokia. I loved it apart from 2 things - there was no camera flash, instead a photo light that you could manually turn on and it was rubbish. Outdoor pics were good though. Also the speaker was terribly weak and even on max volume it was less than half that of my old Nokia. I kept it for 2 years then sold it for £70.

Omg Gsmarena THANK YOU for reminding me of all these wonderful phones!!I remember being 13 and so mesmerized by the Idou (Satio here), I was begging my parents to buy it. Then came the X10, the Vivaz, the Arc, then the Xperia S and Xperia Z. Those were exciting times. Now it's boring I barely follow this industry anymore, every phone looks the same, there's no real innovation. A shame.

Ahh this brings back a lot of memories for me. My first android was a Samsung Galaxy Mini but I exchanged to Sony Experia Mini after just a few days. Man old Sony phones at this timas was such a dope, still remember the giddy feeling at that time when I first unboxed it. Very small yet sleek and elegan but too bad sh*t happened and I was forced to sell it to buy some food. Still regret that till this day but I didn't have any other way. :(

Why Sony lost how to make great designs? So many wonderful designs like X10, X1 (2010 version, not this crap sold today), Xperia Play, S1 (2013), P1i (amazing keyboard with aluminum body), T1 (ultra thin with 5000mah), the ones with leds in bar at the botton, etc. We can see the best era of Sony in this link (https://m.gsmarena.com/sony_ericsson-phones-19.php)

Why Sony is so mediocre today? Everytime I see the 3000mha whatever every phone Sony have, I just call them dumb phone. Hahah

I owned the Galaxy S back then which was definitely better IMO than the X10, but the X10 was sooooooo pretty and the UI looked great, a friend of mine had it and I was kinda jealous even though I knew I had the better phone.

Shanti Dope, 24 May 2020The Xperia 1 Mk II is showing the real Sony uniqueness. No... moreActually there is a small OEM from USA that has a 4K screen.
I think device is from 2017 or 2018.

Yeah, that was a problem for all brands back then, they did not took iphone seriously, well they had their own right to do so, iphones were as dumb as as a slab with a "large" screen can get, it had nothing on the companies like Nokia, Blackberry, Motorolla or sony. Well, they did not see the bigger pictures, Steve Jobsi knew his s'''t and how to lock people down into a "Fantasy Island", hack at that time people protected their iphone no matter how bad it was, and it was having a lot of problems. The most known one being the Antena Gate, what a bummer. Sadly because of android and windows phones, died 2 way better systems, symbian and the new commer that now everybody copies, MeeGo. Well, that's the life, if you don't know when to start running, you loose.

Anonymous, 24 May 2020And you need to pay Sony Premium pricing... And sony xpe... moreGreat then go buy Poco F2 you get every spec box ticked. Not sure if that will work as advertised but who cares. You can take 8K videos man! You have HDR10+ display, you have quad binning sensor, you have all the bells and whistles.

But it still looks so cool. I want to back to white's color era

This was my very 1st android phone, at the time I had the choice of this and the galaxy s, something just made me choose the x10, maybe it was the design that drew me in. I really did love the thing, even after I had upgraded it still had a place, I ended up rooting it and using custom roms on it, eventually it just decided to not to turn on. I had the satio before this and there's part of me would love to see Sony go back to some more original designs, I know that's difficult with how how phones are now

Oppaii, 24 May 2020I hope Sony will came back competing seriously. I mean righ... moreShowcasing their technology (innovation in other words) is exactly how you compete with others instead of riding the vanilla wave. People are so obsessed with numbers today that they cannot see where the actual difference is. Heavy pushing marketing has turned everything into numbers - higher the better which is so far from the true.

Many are mistaken if they think Sony can't sell tens of millions of units annually, sure they can. All they have to do is spend hundreds of millions of dollars to spam every carrier store in the world with giant POP stands and grease the carriers to push their devices to customers instead of Samsung or Huawei. And then what? They've just lost huge amounts of money and they would be even deeper into the red. Hey but sales would be big!

My first android phone. Back then it was powerful but after few updates the phone had a problem with restarting itself. The problem was not fixable.
