Flashback: the Motorola Nexus 6 was the best in the series and it changed Google

31 May 2020
Not necessarily for the better. Unlike the Nexus 4 and 5 before it and 5X and 6P after it, the 6 was a premium, expensive phone - just like the Pixels.

No doubt one of the best of its time but credit should be given to Xperia Z Ultra for being the first real phone of its class with a nice design and features

Had this phone. Speakers were loud, big screen, liked the wide width of the screen, clean stock Android. but Hated the Battery life. It was trash.

Eh...Actually, Nexus 6P was the best until the heating problems came. They improved many aspects for the successor to Nexus 6 especially the camera which shooked the camera game. If it weren't for the firey Snapdragon 810, it would've held pretty good in current times.

Whackcar, 31 May 2020Well, it seems the demand for larger screen phones have sky... moreCan't argue with that, of course catering to an active demand is good business. Guess what I am trying to say is a that point will customers say 'ok that's big enough'.

Also agree that yes it is a shame that more compact form factors are being neglected. It's quite easy now to find budget androids (think moto E series or Nokia 3-6 range device's etc.) that are every bit as large as the current Note or iPhone Max.

One of the best phones of its day. Loved mine but dropped it and smashed the screen when it was 6 months old.....

The short battery life and limited storage ruined the phone for me.

I'm reading this on a Nexus 6. It does have problems as it has aged, but I'll undoubtedly keep it till it bricks itself. Then I'll probably move to a Pixel model. I love the big screen; I really don't see the problem unless you have baby hands.

                        Nexus 4.

High end experience (for the time) at an affordable price and Google's signsture.

Nexus 6 was when things started to go seriously awry for google. Terrible phone.

YUKI93, 31 May 2020And yet people mocked the idea of the new iPhone SE claimin... moreYou misunderstood me. I only admire the concept of the iPhone SE. I don't like the iPhone SE at all. It is a crappy phone with a good SoC, that's it.

There are plenty of Android phones that can get re-released with upgraded internals though, which would actually be amazing.

LOL the worst sold nexus out there ...

I wouldn't say the Nexus 6 is the best Nexus but I didn't necessarily own it either. I've read many people loved it though. I had one guy try to sell me an HTC One M9 which was all scratched up and said the Nexus 6 was his all-time favorite. He actually sold it to some guy for $600 when you could've easily picked it one up for under $250 back in 2017.

For my money, I love the current ones I have now. That's my Pixel 3 and Essential Phone. Neither one are perfect. My Pixel 3 will shut off if it overheats and it does it randomly when the day or where I'm sitting isn't necessarily too hot. The Essential Phone no longer has any support. Each need to he rebooted once in awhile for the fast charging to work. But I love Pie on them.

Nexus 6 initially had Lollipop and I tend to pick up phones with the initial software on them as it was optimized for those specs the best. The Nexus 6 also only had 3 GB of RAM and the camera was nothing to special. A better deal is to get the first generation Pixel. You can officially get Android 10 without doing any custom ROM stuff. They're cheaper too. On Nougat, smooth as butter.

I think anything with software before Nougat feels really old to me. And my future phone purchases should have Pie as the bare minimum. I say phones from the 2016-2018 era can hold up way better than 2014 phones and I know people who hung onto to their iPhone 6 / 6 Plus for 4-5+ years.

So, the 5.7` galaxy note 4, which was launched the same year was not big, but when the nexus 6 comes with a slightly larger screen boom, it's just too big? Really?

Whackcar, 31 May 2020You'd rather have the gimmickry trash phones of today. I lo... moreAnd yet people mocked the idea of the new iPhone SE claiming it to be a poor man's iPhone. Personally, I'd even do the same with Android devices as they, in general, don't really have a long life span in the first place.
