Weekly poll: Redmi 9 does more than the Redmi 8, but costs more too - is it worth it?

14 June 2020
The base Redmi series have always been some of the best value-for-money phones. The 9 certainly offers more value, but it is not better in every way.

LG Superfan, 14 Jun 2020I don't know much about G80 chipset but I think it's quite ... moreG80 way more power then SD636 and even that can run games like A9 with 15-20 fps :D

AnonD-906854, 14 Jun 2020They always have 5% profit marginAre you their accountant?

Posting vote in this new poll doesn't work for me (using chrome on Android 10).

The specs aren't bad for the price at all.

But without US bands, of course I put 'no'. lol.

All of their hardware might be good. Their prices might be nice. But MIUI is an absolute deal breaker for me.

I'm still running an old Redmi Note 4 as a spare, but sometime in 2017 or 2018 when the MIUI update spawned a cesspool of adverts inside my phone...MIUI was dumped for a ROM within the week. And they at least lost 1 sale of a Mi 10 phone and how knows what else down the line, because there is no way I'm gonna drop 50,000 INR on this junk filled android wrapper, even if the hardware seems decent.

And yea, unlike layman users, I know how to flash cleaner ROMs and how to disable and debloat most of the spyware and adware system apps in MIUI. But the fact that they so forcefully want to push ads as an official stance (at least for the Indian market) leaves a bad taste and I will take my money elsewhere.

          MIUI = no buy.

No. Redmi note 9s is more valuable
            That has snapdraon 720G!
            The two are not comparable!

Great specs for the price! Kudos to xiaomi!

13abySouL-, 14 Jun 2020In my opinion Android should use the strategy that apple... moreWhat are you talking about, even Apple is not following that strategy anymore with they're next generation iPhones, resolution was a deal breaker to many who were thinking about the 11 and XR, even when these phones hit the 300ppi target, with android phones that have 6.2" displays and above, 720p doesn't even get to 300ppi, and it doesn't look good, yes you might not notice the difference when navigating through apps or social media, but play a video on hd vs fhd, the difference is clear, and much more noticeable than fhd vs 2k on these 6.2 to 7" screens. And I don't understand this "better for gaming" reasoning, it's the ui and the game settings that control the resolution, you can always play at 720p even if you have 4k display.

Anonymous, 14 Jun 2020No Snapdragon no buy.Not sure if you're serious but I hope not.
If you aren't serious then it's a good joke.
If you are serious, then you should know mediatek is badly famed just cuz it's not american, but I owned 3 phones with mediatek chipsets, one of which is recent, the motorola one macro, that doesn't even have the g80,but a worse one, think it's a p70. It performs great on the 720p display.

It doesn't matter which one has better hardware...Miui on low tier Redmi n mid tier note series are built on most distingusting kind of ads platform ..and disabling isn't the answer...it should not be incorporated into the system in first place...

125 euros on aliexpress for 4/64gb, but, what about MediaTek, G80, charging speed? Battery life )compare to Note 9s, with same battery, resolution, but 8nm Qualcomm SoC)?
Btw in the box with Redmi 9, there is a 10w charger (but Redmi 9 support 18w)..

I don't know much about G80 chipset but I think it's quite capable of handling FHD games they may not be the smoothest though (may give 15-20fps on pubg at medium settings) but you should appreciate the fact that phones in this range are getting better though I would prefer the 12MP camera of last year even if it meant getting rid of macro and depth sensor

Might as well spend an extra £30 and get the Redmi Note 9. Or last years Note 8t for the same price

Having a resolution bigger than 720+ on budget phones is dumb. Especially for bang for buck phones. If the realme 6 had a 720+ screen it would have many more fans. We want power not screen res. Get a samsung for screen res, gives you an amoled as well.
