Weekly poll: Redmi 9 does more than the Redmi 8, but costs more too - is it worth it?

14 June 2020
The base Redmi series have always been some of the best value-for-money phones. The 9 certainly offers more value, but it is not better in every way.

Whackcar, 14 Jun 2020Redmi 8 = $112 Redmi 9 = $150 I don't see this as an up... moreThere is logic in your words.

On the other hand, look at flagship prices skyrocketing. I know it's not the same situation, but it's an obvious trend, which is moving down into the mid-range and entry-level phones.

Also, you can't expect a company to release a successor for the same price, when the previous model is still being sold and isn't that old either. No one would buy the Redmi 8, if you can get the faster successor, for the same price. They'd be sitting on mountains of unsold inventory, with each new phone release.

Complete BS. not worth the extra money for the sake of ruining their brand image. Who are they trying to impress with that? Since the very first redmi this phone line had a HD screen and now they're going to destroy that asweome battery life and repitstion with double the relution and huge price increase. Shameful

      In my opinion

Android should use the strategy that apple used in iphone series.
If they can't compete for iphone 11, then can modify it.

Bring budget phone with 'good chipset' but with lower resolution

      For example,
Exynos 9611 that be used in A51, M31 etc
They can make bargain one with lower resolution (for example 720p or like iphone SE 750p). And we know that samsung has own LCD panel (PLTS) or something because IPS is from LG (cmiiw) or they can produce 720p+ with Amoled (exist on Mi A3)

For battery, 5000 should be ok, if they can 6000 why not?

With this, we got better battery life, better performance(?) bc lower than 1080p+
      And for gaming, much better.

I'm happy to see them make the jump to 1080p screens. That should the the standard in 2020.

          which more talking about????
use Graphene to decrease the heat, something like cooling system ????
just using Helio G80 instead old snapdragon
          maybe Notification Led

& make it the screen Bigger & no 6000mah
          FHd+ instead Hd+

          13Mp + 2mp & 12Mp + 2mp of redmi8 they are same
          useless ultrawide & macro

            Answer is yes..

              Redmi 8 = $112
              Redmi 9 = $150

I don't see this as an upgrade. An upgrade is when the specs get upgraded at the same price point. This isn't that. You can pay a bit more & get the Redmi Note 9, but you can no longer buy a new Redmi phone for $112 (buying last year model doesn't count). I hope my point is clear.

This is quite a decent budget phone.

Is there any profit-oriented logic behind Xiaomi's strategy or are they just trying to break into as many markets possible at the cost of wasting resources (you know, the usual Chinese model)?

Definitely won't be buying this. A budget handset is a budget handset and there are plenty others to choose from at that price point. Apart from the camera and slightly bigger screen (both meh) there's no real incentive to pay extra to buy a Redmi 9 over a Redmi 8.

All I look for in a cheap second handset is the ....... cheapest price with the most recent OS. Most cameras on phones these are plenty good enough for taking decent snaps. The only option I'd spend a little extra for is a fingerprint sensor and the Redmi 8 already has a good once.
