It's your carrier/network operator that is holding up the updates! If you can't wait for your operator to sort their act out, just head over to XDA. There's several ICS ROM's with full Arabic language support. You can even add features from the SIII, like S-Voice!

I don't understand why folk feel they have a God-given right to an update for their phone. You don't get free OS updates when you buy a PC. If a new TV comes out with better features than mine I don't start sulking and posting all over the place how poor Panasonic are. An OS upgrade is a bonus and should be seen as such. If you were happy with your phone when you bought it then job done, and if a FREE upgrade comes along you've done well. We've become a generation that expects everything for nothing.

Got my update this morning OTA. The only difference I notice is that switching back to the home screen is now much quicker. There used to be a short delay when switching back to the home screen (thought to be due to the device checking for a double-click of the home button to activate S-voice) and you could see the home screen populating itself. This so far seems to have been completely overcome and switching back to home is instant.

People shouldn't really have to use custom ROMS to update their devices, but I suppose if you don't have any plans on upgrading an SGS then It's up to you. At least the devs stick with Android handsets longer.

Samsung might release an update for galaxy s 3 but in the middle east the simple galaxy s2 has still not even gotten an upgrade on ICS 4.0 which sad to say that Samsung is not squeezing it time or effort for its customer it doesn't care about its customer like apple it cares about the money ask yourself this question why be racists and discriminate the middle east by not sending them ICS while sending the other countries ICS.

I have the UK version (I think) which I'm using on AT&T in the US. I haven't received the "so called update", doesn't appear on update server. Glad to see though that Samsung is keeping it software on the S3 up to date. The galaxy S3 has yet to give me an issue, can't say the same about the HTC One X.

Still, better than no update at all for SGS and older. It's justifiable considering how many phones Samsung releases (even if they're trying to tone it down) but it's still a problem (unless you use custom ROMS)

When I connect my T989 to Kies it says:
Your device does not support software upgrading via Kies.
Luckily I found the firmware including the update program at different place: http://www.rapidgsm.com/samsung/t989-ics-update-download/

Samsung update their phones. For a year and a half.
No official ICS update for the SGS, and Apple release iOS 6 for the 3GS three years later.
