14 June, 2012
The lay-offs are a result of the closing of three factories in Canada, Germany and Finland.

Nick, 15 Jun 2012A sure sign that nokia's profits are dropping and most prob... moredont hate android its not thier fault mr elop cant run the company efficently and chose to partner with an os that is way behind the curve maybe if they had given meego and better chance than one handset that was only relesed in a few countrys they wouldnt be losing in the market against such os's as android.

Not the actions of a thriving company are they. Nokia really needs to get its act together. I would genuinely be dissapointed if they went under because the brand name is great. Havent made a good phone to keep up with the standards of the european market for a long time. shame... crying shame.

As a nokia phone lover I am pretty much angry.

I don't know why Nokia stuck with Microsoft. Its a big market. Nokia should provide android, windows and their own OS in their hardware.

What about tablet, or big screen phone? Nokia does not know how to make them, or still they are sleeping? Or their key executive are spending time with meeting and drinking coffee in their office. what they are doing with their big company and huge resource? making some stereotype old fashion phone, and try to killing the Nokia with that.

Nokia need to kick off more their executive instead of there employees.

It's funny to read all these comments judging any company decisions when the posters are disagree. It's like if they know how hard it was taking any decision when they are under pressure. I wonder what if these guy did when they are the one in the Nokia head. Picking something just because certain company gain success from it (and some others not), or doing a thorough analysis to all the matters (not just accounting for future problems, but also present and past problems so that problems would not rise again). Kudos to anyone who can do it.

I am sure they don't mean just permanant employees, but mainly their vendors. Nokia got so many vendors, you can hardly count them. Although I don't wish for their vendor companies to suffer either. Yeah, it sucks what Nokia will do to people who have families and get hurt by it.

z, 15 Jun 2012mistakes Nokia made: 1. go against the world 2. picked ... moreI think a more accurate description of the situation is Nokia is dying because:

Steve Jobs revolutionized the phone and left everybody in the dust.

Many comments here blame not shifting to android or getting Mr. Elop but I doubt it would have made a difference.

If they chose Android do you think they could beat Samsung in price, features, and quality? I doubt it. The only thing Samsung was bad at was software. If they are using the same software as Nokia, Samsung will eat Nokia alive.

As for Elop, he didn't have any choice as you can see from the situation above. It was try to differentiate with WP or die. Sadly, I think its becoming clearer which.

I really don't understand why it's so hard for Nokia management to use Android OS. It they used android 2 years ago, i think, Nokia will be hiring 10,000 employees today. A wrong decision by their Executives costs the lives of 10,000 ordinary employees.

Put retractable antenas on your WM Phones so when somebody else argue that
you had a bad phone you just pull-out
                          antena and fight.

Either android, or hire the very best developers to pick up Symbian and turn it into a worthy competitor to iOS and Android. Many people arr still used to the idea that Symbian works best with Nokia hardware. There are still thousands of Nokia feature phone users waiting to upgrade to smartphone with familiarinterface. What about android with Nokia launcher?
