          No one cares about latest updates on Android.
          Only YouTube Reviewers care about them and companies who bestow their entire marketing on that one fact.
          It's like on Windows, the latest versions were full of bugs while older versions were much more stable.
          So nobody used to bother about having the latest update at all times.

You also have to remember the average joe also doesn't care about updates in general and also won't go on XDA. Most people can't tell you what update they are on, iOS or Android users, and would be happy with their current Android version as long as it ran smoothly.

However even being a flagship phone those updates won't last. I talk from experience from using a Huawei phone provided by work. With software they do have some nice customisations but overall the bad far outweigh the good for me.

                Now, you mentioned your Huawei flaghsip phone gets updates. What about the midrange phone where this Pixel 4a will be competing? You know the answer is that the updates will be spotty. Your average jo does not and will not browse XDA just to find custom ROMs to make their phone run better

                                M1999, 27 Jun 2020Battery is small, but it is a small phone. For comparison, ... more....but the SE also has a 7nm chip and efficient iOS. I can only imagine them being on par with each other regarding battery life. Google could have very easily won in that segment but they did not act on it.

                                  Battery is small, but it is a small phone. For comparison, the iPhone SE is having a battery that is 1821 mAh, so this compact phone is having a huge battery comparing to that ;) (I noticed the iPhone SE is suggested as an alternative, so I had to make a comparison between these two).

                                  My current phone has a bigger screen and an older chipset (sd845) which should cost more energy, and I have 5.5-8.5 hours screen on time dependinf on what apps I use (on average 6.5). It isnt that bad. It beats my friends iPhone SE 😂

                                    OnePlus with clean stock OS has had traditionally average battery life. Same as pixel series.
                                    While Xiaomi and Realme with comparatively heavier Android skins have always provide great battery life.

                                    Clean Stock OS or optimizations don't play a huge role in improving battery but bigger batteries do.
