I upgrade my phone yearly. Having a phone for too long is boring.

    My $400 dream phone :
    -OLED display, no need HRR
    -Cameras that are useful and HQ, not gimmicks like macro and depth
    -Pack an Last year Flagship Chip, not an Midrange 5G One!
    -Build Quality just average, no need glass, ceramic, stainless steel
    -Battery Life good
    -Focus on things that improve consumers life at day to day usage

      - The phone of 2018 :
      Note 9, Mate 20 Pro, Pocophone F1, Oneplus 6T, Honor View 20
      - The Phone of 2019 :
      Note 10+, Iphone 11 Pro, Oneplus 7T, Realme X2 Pro, (Could have been Huawei, but no GMS, sadly)
      - The Phone of mid 2020 :
      S20/S20+, IPhone SE, Poco F2 Pro, 2019 Flagships

      Why?

      Because they pack a Flagship Processor that enables us to use the phone longer than 3 years. Unlike a midrange processor that expires at maximum 4 years.

      At 2020, brands are getting bland to what consumers need. They rise the price of the phones with features that isn't even ready or useful! (5G, 8K, 100MP+ sensors, 10X Optical Periscope zooms), that's why the S20/S20+ are better than the Ultra and also 2019 flagships are to consider than 2020 ones.

      Hope brands will focus on improving things that matters to consumers life, not making Incredible Gimmicky stuffs that is VERY IMPRESSIVE on Marketing, but on real life SUCKS.

      Note for Oneplus :
      Why go for a 765G, an 855+ would enable linger term usage, besides nowadays who needs 5G, ( I understand a 5G chipset is needed in future to be compatible), but at that 5G era, consumers would switch phones because the phone feels slow cause their midrange chip! So consumers are paying extra for nothing! Hope Oneplus wakes up and be careful about making a product next time.

                1. Do u buy your phone on a loan/EMI?
                2. Is it over your Monthly salary?
                3. Dis you buy it as a status symbol, even though you don't know what extra features or has over your previous phone?
                5. Did you buy the phone because you can't afford a Ferrari, and so you had to content yourself with whatever you could afford, for bragging rights?

                  If rog phone could come with user replaceable battery and sd card support, I might get new phone. Now using s7. Still works fine. Consume lot of media and play 2d games(casual gamer & for better gaming I prefer gaming laptop). If all of the above is too much to ask. Why fairphone is not available everywhere ? :(. Why can't someone make a recyclable phone that I could change every year without a guilt of e-waste?

                    I use to switch every 6 months or so, but this S20 will be around for a few years

                      In the current time of flagships I see no excuse for throwing your phone out early (sooner than 3 Years). However if you are stuck on an older/lower end phone I think you can afford to produce some e-waste :P
                      Of course if your Name is Tim Cook you can update every year, I got you Tim.

                        Recently I bought s720g phone with 30w and 5k (RN9PRO). I will keep my phone for two years or more and waiting the 5G smartphone. Because In my country still no 5g yet

                          If companies stop downgrading our mobile phones i wouldn't change it before 5 years at minimum .. which why I've changed from Samsung to Oneplus .. which is kinda worked for me ( oneplus 7 pro) .. the only issue i have is screen in-burn which kinda sucks .. but performance wise its as good as newly unboxed .. and i hope they keep it this way

                            I keep my phone 2+ years

                            Reasons for upgrading:
                            1. Camera improvements (with new technologies)
                            2. Battery life
                            3. New features (like wireless charging, etc)

                            I have oneplus 6 and in regards to the cpu I have no complaints whatsoever.. Its Snapdragon 845 is fast even now... No lagging, no problems. My favorite phone so far.
                            But I'm considering changing for the new features that come with new phones, like wireless charging, QHD screen, 120Hz screen and for the camera improvements - the latter being the only thing I'm not satisfied with oneplus 6.

                              I change phones when my current one breaks. It hasn't so far.

                                I have a flagship and a mid ranger. The midrange is made of metal. No guesses for which one survived a few falls as is my daily driver.

                                The glass back is extremely prone to damage. Even with expensive supposedly Military Grade cases.

So I chose this phone and after 1 year it's got a lot (A LOT) of lag but it's more than usable, quite a smooth experience when it's not hot because of the sun or games. Thermal throttling is only visible on menus, that's the lag I'm talking about. Other than that games run as laggy at the end like at the beggining, and pung is more than playable. (Also the black shark 2 is compatible with the hdmi adapter)


                                  In the end, a phone should be kept for 4-6 years. Under that it feels like wasted money (especially on a flagship,especially to non tech savvies).

                                    I would normally change my phone every two years but Flagships phones have become so expensive these days that I've switched to changing my phone every 3 years.

                                        Well I own multiple phones but I only use one (and I actually didn't use any of the other that I own (and modern not my s3)) as my main. The a40. I'm hoping to get 4 years from it. 5 days ago it just had it's first birthday. My s3 neo,which was used by my dad from 2013 to 2015,then I used it till 1st july last year, held me 4 years and since I used a very tough rubber and plastic protection case it didn't show any signs of use anywhere other than the screen which had a hole the size of a needle (I dropped it on iced metal). It wasn't too laggy and I would have kept it for one more year if it wasn't that i bought a hdmi adapter that was actually for usb C (I had 0 knowledge whatsoever about phones then) and I had to buy a phone that had a port for that so I didn't call it wasted money (spoiler alert my a40 wasn't compatible with it, only the flagships did (s8,s8+,9,10 etc)). And I also chose this phone because it was the cheapest
