sony xperia z5 premium is my most recent phone... i thought that was only 2-3 years!!! and i still use miro, z1 compact and z3... am i missing a lot? 😂

When battery life drops below a day. If you aren't at a desk, that is a major issue. During lockdown, I tried using the manufacturer's wireless charging pad for a week, but that heated the phone too much and actually reduced the battery life noticeably.

I switch phones every year as my daily driver.
Sometimes within 6 months.
Used 30-40 devices in the past decade, mostly flagships.
Love the variety provided in the smartphone segment by Android manufacturers.

Unless you're on a plan or work phone (and therefore don't care that you are paying 200% MSRP for the phone), who can realistically fork out a grand of their own money every year to stay on-trend?
I operate on a '3 models behind the curve' template, and If you do this, you can 'upgrade' every 3 years or so, and your 'new' phone will be a real step up from your last one, but you'll save hundreds each time.
And you'll be doing a little bit for recycling, too.

I have 2 phones with me always. One is free from my carrier which i renew every 2 years. Free phone for every renewal but its limited only to 400 to 450 usd equivalent. My other phone i replace every two years but i made sure my i upgrade my other phone in between the one which is provided by my carrier. So basically i have a new phone every year

no such luck anymore thanks to the sheep who just take whats given thinking it's must be good because it's new.

As a phone fanatic I used to change phones every year but I used my Lumia 930 for 2,5 years and soon my Note8 is in use for 3 years. Because of the absurdity in pricing I keep hold on my phone for longer nowadays. Also I became somewhat more conscious about the impact on the environment if you change phones so many times.

Had my Huawei p9 plus for 3 and a half years now and while it's stuck on Android 8, it still functions properly. The screenglass is cracked around the bottom bezel, and there's a piece of glass missing from the bottom bezel, other than that it still works and I will continue to use it until it dies completely :D I dont see a need to replace it until it is completely broken/beyond repair (for a reasonable price). Also I'm waiting for a suitable replacement phone to appear.

I used to switch my phone on a 3 year basis, but I used to buy flagships, namely the LG G2 and the Xiaomi Mi 6.
Now, I bought a mid-range phone: the Mi Note 10 Lite.
Because mid-range phones got more solid, I can trade it every 2 years, get the latest software updates, get the latest security updates, and stay more up-to-date on both hardware and software features.
My target is €10 / month, meaning: I divide the price of purchase through the months I owned the phone; and the new flagships (with €550 to €1200) forces me to have a phone for longer - which is not acceptable, because software and hardware evolves rapidly.
Thus, I advise my friends to buy cheaper phones, but trade them more often. An advantage is: you can pass your old phone on to your family members, which either demand less from the hardware, or just demand less of smartphones ingeneral.

Preferably 1-2 year old flagship phones.
I'll agree to 3 phones as long as each one costs under $500 when combined into a "great deal".
$1000+ for one phone is just an unreasonably high price for a toy, IMHO.

My phone is 5 years old. My laptop is 10 years old. If I find a new job this year I will replace both of them. Will buy Xiaomi Poco F2 Pro which is a really powerful very fast turbo phone. And will buy Lenovo 5i laptop very powerful too.

Every new highend phone released that's how often i change my phone. Brands doesnt matter to me. Brands are just brands phones are just phones.

Bought Samsung Galaxy S7 over 3 years ago. Loving it. I see no reason to upgrade - modern cameras got a little bit better, performance has improved, screen got long. Sure. But at the same time my device still performs well, camera is still amazing, screen is still awesome. I don't plan to upgrade for as long as I can.
And when I do upgrade, I plan to get an old flagship, maybe 1-2 years old. 5G must be awesome but I couldn't care less - I'm happy with what I have.

My $1000+++++ Dream Phone :
- Keep Pushing technologies that improve consumers life, not gimmicks that are good marketing that only adds costs and not useful
-Try to improve each generation significantly. Not only little improvements. Like Iphone x to xs. (Come On! Look at your Price!!)
-Try not to overhype a phone even if it is incredible
-Try not to push past THE $2000 PRICE TAG
