AnonD-909757, 03 Jul 2020Wait...Isn't USB C limited to 100W ?
Or is it only fo... moreThat 100W limit is only for USB PD.
Xiaomi probably using 4 cells with their existing 30W fast charging system to give 120W to prevent all that heat.

Think smartphone chargers are at a stupid point. A decade ago gaming laptop chargers were 120-180w and we used those watts to the fullest, but charging a battery? I get it if it's an e-bike, ev or something that has a capacity that can run a home for more than a few hours, but a smartphone battery? I'm sorry to disappoint you but if you can't go that hour or so your phone is dead and you see no charging port in sight then you should rethink your life in general.

Strawhat, 03 Jul 2020What is your phone?Mi Note 10.
It charges fully in just over an hour, but the reality is that unless I am at an airport between flights, I usually just plug it in overnight. The Mi Note 10 used to be in the 50%+ range at the end of the day, now it's usually in the 30%+ range. This is why I am wondering if these fast chargers shorten the life of the battery.

[deleted post]Nice troll 😅
Because the article has mentioned that it may be used for notebooks only, and USB-C only goee up to 100W. Thunderbolt, on the other hand, can even go more than 200W in gaming laptops.

i even think 40w is too fast for battery life
i bought a second 22w charger for my p40 pro as i want to keep it at least 2 years without much battery degradation , i'm using the 40w charger only in exceptional situations

People ... moreThe companies do so because the market tends into the direction people will use their phone just for one to two years. If you want your battery to live longer simply don't use such a fast charger which is that fast but use a power brick which is capped at 10-18W.
