Since it is probably MSRP and that anyway all shops do make it more expensive than that, plus on many other country there are taxes or shipping or both that add up...
Considering that some phones like the Poco F2 Pro is under 500€ in France, and it isn't the only SD865 phone around that price and most do have lots of interesting features, not as if they only had flagship SoC and no features...
And since they are bragging about their phone being affordable and all that, well...500 isn't that good of a price.

... moreI like your comment and your passion. But I want to invite you to consider that a mobile SoC ultimately cannot be 100% about performance.
I mean, it matters the most but we can't look at it in a vacuum.

I consider this as more than enough reason to, at least for now, opt into a more established brand. Don't get me wrong, the Dimensity looks amazing and I am really looking forward for someone to properly dispute QQ in the SoC game (apart from Apple who's a few years ahead).

What OnePlus fans wanted: Dimensity 820 or 1000 for raw power on budget, no wasting money on pompous advertising, no bulsh*t just pure performance for best money possible.
What OnePlus delivered: Double punch hole trash with pricey midrange chipset and TONS of advertising that drastically inflate the price.

All the money spent with these teaser, paid and sponsored articles directly translates to the jacked up prices of the mediocre device.
The PR Spin doctor fees will be bumped off to the customer in the form of sticker prices. $499 phone with $200 worth of marketing spiel.

... moreOn point. I am amazed by the progress mediatek has made and sad Oneplus made the wrong move. Potentially that is the reason I will not go with thsi phone among others.
Was soo excited. Oh the hype. Been following a channel on YT 'TechUtopia' who has been showcasing the mediatek power lately through the iqoo z1. But that isn't availabe in my country for whatever reason. So was delighted oneplus was rationally going to decide on mediatek for its price performance ratio. But naah another overrated fish among others? Depends on the price now.

Better value for the price and even realme like x2 pro its display wich is a oneplus 7 display is much better than any Samsung midrange, the A71 costs 420$ for a plastic build and the outdated 730 , even redmi note 9s for 240$ have 720g wich is slightly better

So much media hype for an year old Realme looks and probably the 30th device with SD765. It's like all this attention is building expectations for something extraordinary, so when the curtains are down and the another exorbitant price is revealed, people will swallow it and still buy it.
Lies!
Just 6 months ago for 500€ one could buy a plethora of flagship grade devices! And today.... One overpriced Poco and a couple of Realmes that are not even properly available...

Seriously, I was once a person who laughed at Mediatek, but the days have gone by and so has my laughs.
Mediatek is clearly a humongous better deal than these overpriced Qualcomn midrange chips.
Seriously, my next cellphone will have a Mediatek chip (I never thought this day would come, but it has).
Just like AMD is doing with Intel, Mediatek is on the rise.

Too close to the One Plus 8 and no one will buy it. But if its around $400 then it might be competitive. Other SD 765 phones are all $500+ except for MI.
