Alleged renders of Google Pixel 5 leak, reminiscent of Pixel 4

To be sincere, I am over Pixel and it's because of Google.
Always underpowered(weaker CPU than other flagships), smaller battery, worse design, lower RAM, older flash storage technology - considering all that, it's also overpriced...

kupfernigk, 08 Jul 2020Your design will get water in it if it is retracted while w... moreYou clearly haven't understood my concept...
It isn't the pop up who act as a seal, it is the phone who have an EXTERNAL compartment where the pop up goes, the phone to pop up data and power are done through contractors that goes through the body (integrated in the body, like antennas), and the pop up itself is also its own enclosed and sealed entity, at worse, water get in between the pop up and the body, but that's it, and it isn't even an issue and the pop up can be removed without the need to open the whole phone.
Manufacturers are just unable to innovate, if one guy made one design, they will all over use the design without finding alternatives, it have nothing to do about them knowing anything.
Well you just basically repeated what I said, IP rating is useless as it doesn't guarantee anything, rather it give illusion that the phone is perfectly waterproof (my design actually is) while it is not and cost a lot, and a non IP rated phone, even with a pop up, can survive accidental drop in water (which rarely happen in salt water), which is all that matter anyway.

AnonD-909757, 07 Jul 2020If you mean that the phone is vulnerable to water, well, no... moreYour design will get water in it if it is retracted while wet, because a seal that removes all the water will have far too high friction for your popup mechanism. Manufacturers do understand this stuff, you know. A rotational seal can work but a linear sliding seal will never eliminate fluid transfer. It has to have some flexibility to maintain the seal.
As for IP rating, if carried out by a reputable test agency it's perfectly valid. What people often fail to understand is that if a phone is dropped into water at the wrong angle, the instantaneous pressure at the seal of the SIM carrier can exceed the IP rated pressure. And then there's the people who just don't insert the carriers correctly, or manage to damage the seal.
I've had several phones survive unintentional immersion quite happily. They were all Sony. I would expect Apple to do as well or better.
Phones without an IP rating might survive a brief dunk in fresh water, but sea water is another matter entirely. Even IP 68 rated phones need to be washed in fresh water after sea water immersion.

Anonymous, 07 Jul 2020You are right, maybe it's because I'm used to mor... moreYeah, some peoples get really harsh and mean on here, personally I try to avoid personal attack and insult as much as possible.
And well, the reason why I came to like the underdisplay FPS is because you can unlock the phone without moving it from the table or from its dock or car holder, side and back FPS need you to aim and aren't always accessible, as for front FPS that I experienced my Nokia 6 it is too close to the bottom and is often inconvenient to access, that's what made me interested in UD FPS in the first place, it was when they started to appear.
As for ultrasonic FPS, since they can read a FP in a really short time, along with 3D Facial recognition, they are the two tech that can passively and securely check who use the phone and can allow to block it for unregistered users and report it (email with picture and localisation + history) without the unauthorized user being really able to do anything against it.
But hey, we also need phones with other options like back and side FPS.
Its just sad that there isn't any phone with bezel or pop up with 3D facial recognition + underdisplay fingerprint scanner.
Make a phone with pop up and 3D facial recognition, ultrasonic 3D FPS and flat display and I buy this thing instantly !

AnonD-909757, 07 Jul 2020Dude, your trolling detector is broken, you take all that w... moreYou are right, maybe it's because I'm used to more heated discussions on here ;)
With the FPR placement it is a personal thing really. Not just with oily fingers, but the type of case you use plays a huge role. I personally use more of a "leather bag" with a pull tap. That way I do not need to pull my phone out completely with a rear mounted FPR for checking the time or for notifications, as the rear mounted FPR usually is on the upper third of a phone. An indisplay FPR would need me to take it out completely, but enables others with different cases to unlock their phones when they are lying on the table next to them.
I'm really interested in seeing how Google tries to position the Pixel 5 if it really comes like it is pictured here. With basically all the other manufacturers giving their "flagships" indisplay FPRs, Google would certainly be the odd one out. Which, however, is a place where Google seems to be comfortable in with their phones.

Anonymous, 07 Jul 2020Yes, I do not like smudges on my screen. Is saying that com... moreDude, your trolling detector is broken, you take all that wayyyy too seriously.
And I don't see how it is a problem since there are screen protectors that prevent smudges and to use your phone you'll put your finger on your screen anyway, it isn't worth loosing the practicality of underdisplay FPR, mainly when whole display ultrasonic one could be made, but whatever you prefer as back placed FPS aren't bad anyway.

AnonD-909757, 07 Jul 2020Lol wat ?
Who said I was triggered ? I literally hesitate ... moreYes, I do not like smudges on my screen. Is saying that complaining? No, that's just saying what I generally dislike and that is why I prefer the fingerprint reader being on the back. It was simply a rather general explanation for my preferance ("I like fingerprintreaders on the back" -> "because I dislike smudges on my screen just by unlocking the phone"). I honestly do not see why that falls under complaining in your eyes.
On the other hand we have all the comments bashing everything on this phone which hasn't even been revealed yet. That can be categorized as complaining, as 1) there is no actual proof yet that it will be like this and 2) because people now want features of the Pixel 4 which Google was widely criticized for last year (huge top bezel for example). That was what I was referring to.
I did, however, call you triggered as you were the only one replying to my comment in a way that revealed you felt "attacked" by my statement, which BTW was not directed at you. What else would be the reason to answer in a way you did? I mean, in essence all you said was "no u" (yes, that's a meme), without actually referring to the points I made. Same for your answer right now. You say that it actually is me being triggered because I said that word twice. Since when is the amount of words he or she uses indicative of a person's state? In the case of "being triggered", the sole indicator is the way people answer to something. And in your case, to me it felt like you were triggered (reason see above), that's all.

AhmedSLL, 07 Jul 2020Nobody asked for the stupid radar, and nobody asked for the... moreMany peoples find straight corners cheap looking actually, myself I don't care, but round corners is liked by many and doesn't necessarily give off a cheap impression.
The most sensor you have for 3D facial recognition, the better, ideally you have a dot projector, two IR camera for both ToF and dots, two front camera (stereoscopy, one normal or portrait and security and a wide angle) and even adding UV camera would crank things a step up.
FPS on the side is the least secure of all 4 (side, back, front, underdisplay), but blame it on phone being hell of too thin, making the sensor only able to read a thin slice of your finger, which is less secure as you have less datas, on the back it get in the way of wireless charging, and on the front it require large chin.
The larger, the better, and something like the Qualcomm 3D Sonic Max for exemple, is the one offering the largest area (which is also convenient) underdisplay (also convenient) FPS and the most secure.
Don't get me wrong, I am for variety and every FPS options should be available, but clearly underdisplay is the best of them all, for many peoples it isn't practical to reach the front FPS as it isn't necessarily where their thumb goes naturally, same for back, while on the display, you won't really use your phone without touching it...

AnonD-909757, 07 Jul 2020If you mean that the phone is vulnerable to water, well, no... moreTrue, no company covers water damages.
Besides the modern phones with glass sandwich design are are easily cracked on drops which renders all that IP rating useless.
People who want to swim with their phones, for whom IP Rating is a dealbreaker act like they are cousins of Aquaman or something, spending majority of their lives underwater.
Most phones flagship or budget come with some form of splash resistance which prevents against accidental drops in water.

And you said twice that I am "triggered", sorry but that's how you reveal to be the one being actually triggered xD

I can't believe they won't use an in screen finger print reader. I still have a pixel 2xl and I hate my reader being on the back of my phone. I lay my phone down on the back a lot when I'm doing things and have to use fingerprint unlock for several apps. So picking the phone up constantly just to unlock it becomes very annoying.

There is a difference in telling something you like (which is automatically saying you dislike the other options) and complaining about something you dislike. I did the former, no complaints there. Just because you feel triggered about what I said doesn't mean you can interpret stuff I never said or did.

Pixel 5 should've use 768G so the performance regression doesn't quite visible. or better yet just use Dimensity 1000.
