Snapdragon 865+ unveiled with 10% CPU and GPU boost, Wi-Fi 6E support

07 July 2020
Two gaming phones have already picked the S865+ chipset - the Asus ROG Phone 3 and Lenovo Legion, both coming later this month.

Mediatek sux, 02 Aug 2020They did do some tests on a d1000L, just not a full review.... moreI know about 1000L. That one is a great CPU according to me. If one would tell me to pick the best of MediaTek SoC, I'll pick 1000L. Very efficient SoC with upper midrange power.

Besides MediTek has done a good job considering their reputation.
They just need to make 3 cluster SoC instead of 2 cluster.

He doesnt seem to have done the same condition test on another 865, idk if any other youtuber does. This time with 865 all phones seem to have similar performance and throttling, lg, oneplus and samsung. And mediatek cheated only with helio.

          Oppo was running at FHD.
This actually started to make the Dimensity 1000+ looking better.
Still the fps drop is huge. Constantly dropping fps in every second.
Was there any comparison with oneplus or Samsung(SD)

Mediatek sux, 29 Jul 2020Theres probably some power restriction mechanism in 990, th... moreOf course at 1080p any MediaTek 1000+ SoC will beat SD865@1440p by frame-rate and efficiency. I guess I don't have to tell you why.
Still I see Dimesnsity 1000+ doing much worse. What did you try to watch I have no idea. But the frame drop(even at the first minute) on iQOO is just disastrous. Also it throttled in just 3 minutes.
You should watch the video again and don't jump to the end, watch it through. I had slight doubt about the Dimensity 1000+. Now it's clear. Another flop SoC from MediaTek. They cheated on benchmark as AnandTech mentioned that.

That guy is doing a lot of gaming tests.
I watched a few. Actually I've noticed his channel since he started the channel.
His videos don't really give any conclusion unless the person who watches sees things in detail.

What I said was true. Kirin 990 5G isn't power efficient. I think they've made it power efficient by restraining it's strength. I think they're throttling the SoC specially the GPU. Not thermal throttling. More of an aggressive intentional throttling to make it power efficient.
I think Gary should do a speed test with performance mode on.

SN : Gaming in 1440p puts almost 50% more stress on GPU.
For example If a GPU run a game 1080@80fps at highest setting. The same GPU will run the same game @1440p max setting under 40fps. I think you know these.

AnonD-754814, 29 Jul 2020But why doesn't it show in real life performance ? Lo... moreTheres probably some power restriction mechanism in 990, the gpu test in speedtst g shows its slower than sd730g in poco x2, almost twice slower. I think they detect games and benchmarks like antutu, geekbench and up the power. Idk if gary enabled the high performance mode in the settings though.

Yeah the 990 with such low power usage even with a76 is probably rendering the game at lower res or some disabled effects. On another look, they were in different game modes, tdm apparently uses more power than battle royale.

D1000+ iqoo z1 seems impressive in pubg tests compared to find x2 pro sd865, with better average fps and lower power consumption.

If i take your opinion as right then
The Kirin 990 5G has to be like 60% more efficient than Kirin 980 which is impossible.

My guess is Kirin 990 5G and Kirin 980's efficiency is at the same level.
Because Huawei P30pro using kirin 980 has better endurance rating than P40 pro.

That difference might be for 5G inclusion. If we take that out that leave us
Both Kirin 990 and 980 have same efficiency or 990 worse.

                Any different opinion is welcome.

Look at the Huawei P40 pro. The GSMARENA endurance rating is barely better than S20plus(exynos) despite having FHD screen.
The Mate 30s performance was even worse.

Also have you watched the Speed Test G video of P40 series ?
The GPU is even slower than the GPU in Exynos 9810.

2 more A78 core instead of A55 core wouldn't be that more energy consumer.
The issue will be with cooling(at full load), not power usage.
I don't know if you know this or not.
My theoretical SoC will have 3-4 cluster and all cluster aren't used at the same time until you push it to it's best limit. At the best limit this SoC can perform a task in 3 minutes(theoretical) while other SoC in 6 minutes. So, even this SoC consumes 30% more power, It'll be better.
Qualcomm's current SoC with 3 clusters runs similarly like I described.
Most of the time only one cluster is used.
Even the SD 865 device will run out of battery in just 4 hours if all clusters are used.

                                  A55 was introduced in 2017.
That's a long time. In 2021 the A78 shouldn't be much more power hungry than A55.
But I can surely say for the Performance/Watt A78 will definitely be better.
A55 is used for low task. So as my theoretical SoC will have 2 A55 core. So, it can be used to handle low task or background task. So, battery hit shouldn't be more than 10% overall.
