AnonD-21645, 20 Jun 2012It's a wonderfully rose-tinted view you have of Nokia... th... moreI always welcome a healthy discussion. But unfortunately you failed to understand the core of my comment. You took it as a step by step strategy whereas I was attempting it to portray as a well thought business plan. If anybody here has studied business, he will readily realize that I am talking about business cycle and transitional phase.

Now I come to your points:

1. Nokia N9 is anything but laggy. I don't care what bloggers say. There are many bloggers out there who are paid or are fanboys of a particular brand/OS. Nokia's N9 gsmarena comments page is closing in on 10,000 comments and reviews and there is nothing as such. Gsmarena itself gave the title of "Once in a life time" to Nokia N9. It was not meant to be a savior device. It was a check-product. Just like n900 and n950 and that's why it was never advertised and made available globally.

2. If anybody had a choice that was Nokia. Symbian was dead the moment Elop issued the memo of burning platform. Nokia trashed the old Symbian and came up with new Maemo5 inspired and Qt based OS named Nokia Belle. Symbian was mainly based on Java and Symbian C while Nokia Belle was a completely newly written OS for touchscreens that used powerful programming languages including:

*Web Runtime
*Python
*Qt
*Java
*C/C++

And if you go to Nokia Global website you can find it on the homepage under the tab of Products. Nobody puts a dying OS on main homepage. Nokia will continue with it for their mid and lower end devices as it is more than a capable OS. So Nokia had a choice in the form of revival of "New Symbian". If you have been following gsmarena closely then you might have noticed that they considered it to be "almost revolutionary".

The other choice Nokia had was MeeGo or you can call it now as Tizen. But again, the real problem was not an OS but an OS with strong ecosystem. And Nokia Belle and Tizen lacked Ecosystem. But with Windows 8, there was a promising environment developing.

Now I should make clear that today whatever we learned about WP8 had very less to do with consumer based features. This conference was meant to be for developers so they can tighten their seat belts. Actually, there is a lot to come for consumers in the form of Nokia & Microsoft partnership.

The last choice Nokia had was the dear Android. But again Google was not willing to give access to the coding to 11,600 engineers of Nokia so they can change Personal Information Manager and make other tweaks. Plus they also denied to use Nokia maps.

Last and the most smart option was Windows Phone. An evolving ecosystem that will be shared through out the range of devices.

3. Nokia Lumia 900 was an advertising campaign. Just to introduce Americans with WP and Nokia. For $99 it's more than a deal. And the consumers who bought Lumia 900 before 21st April were given a credit of $100. So the phone was absolutely free for them. And as for updates, I think there is none other better than Nokia. Even if they are not given the full fledged WP8 update, Nokia will release updates to satisfy users. Once again I should mention, today was a developer's day not consumer's. So still there is a lot to come.

4. That's the lamest point you came up with. R&D department is a core of any technological concern. A true innovator never gives up with it's R&D department. That's where the cream of all the resources, including human resource, is present. Profit and Loss has nothing to do with R&D.

A device that nobody wants? That's why it has been amongst the top two on gsmarena's page for such a long period of time? That's why Nokia had to change the decision of not releasing it in the US market? That's why the stock ran out in India within 3 days?
I, myself want it badly in red color.

Brink of collapse has nothing to do with companies vision. Best thing always isn't on the top. What is popular is not necessarily the best. And I believe in Nokia. If there is any manufacturer that will take care of me over a longer period of time, that's Nokia. N8 is history but still it will get Belle Refresh.

Now coming on camera feature. Cam feature is the third most used feature according to the study of Steve Jobs. Cybershots and Point & Shoots are history. A portable entry level DSLR camera is one hell of a killer feature. And all the features you mentioned can be incorporated by anyone. Even Chinese company can provide you with 8 cores and billions of pixels on the screen. How many companies can provide you with Pureview, rich recording, nano technology?

If anybody could have done better than Samsung in providing cores and pixels, it was Nokia. Have you checked out 808's display? It is super astonishing. I hardly believed that it was actually a lousy 184 ppi.

And I think you missed the part when they said that majority of apps are retrospectively compatible.

And I never said that Nokia will blow away the competition in a blink of an eye. I said, "Time will tell!".

At least I would prefer a complete water proof phone in a sporty design with ClearBlack HD Display and Pureview and Rich recording technology running WP8 on a powerful dual core Krait accompanied by a strong graphics chip. Rather than going for Galaxies that are on fire and have started to burn:

Multitasking still seems limited if I understood this article proberly =(
      Few supported resolutions =(

I hope they port handwrite recognition from Windows 7 (or the upcoming Windows 8) for WP8 devices.
I also hope for One note for mobiles, but not too scaled down.

And if nokia would make one phone with that 808-pureview sensor inside, I might get it, and I would for sure tell one of my firends to get it.

Where is the aesthetic of simplicity from WP7!? It's far too crowded :( One of the reasons to hesitate moving from Android..

Yes wp8 has finally caught up with the 'big boys' but if you look at android and ios, they seem to be plateuing a bit. sgs3 vs my gnex (modded with aokp), there's not a big difference. sure the sgs3 is smoother, but function wise the gnex can do what the sgs3 cn. But it's the possibilities that count. To be cross compatible with the windows 8 OS...that's just crazy.

gimme pureview tech and i'm in

Maybe it does not have the quickest CPU, but it's not laggy, because Meego is a great system..... You can try to put Android 4.0 on the same hardware, then you know what is laggy.....

I have used iPhone 3GS and HTC Desire HD. So, I have used the platforms I'm talking about, and N9 is the only handset with all the functions I need and without bombarded by useless apps. Would love to try Windows Phone, if I ever want to upgrade N9.

Meego is far more fluid than android except the newest flagships, and that's not the reason why it didn't get the consumer support it deserves, it was killed by Elop that's why.
