13 July 2020
This is counter to analysts' expectations that the 2020 models will be more expensive.

Get Ready for the charger removal folks. Now its time to stop buying and promoting such stuffs.

Spanky, 11 Jul 2020It just goes to show that if they want to release a cheaper... moreThat is why midrange is considered as 'the new flagship'.

      $40 cheaper? I wouldn't call that cheap.

Anonymous, 11 Jul 2020I simply don't understand. Apple and Samsung are two ... moreExactly, mate. The wealthier they are, the more they increase prices and make customers pay for features which used to be free. This has nothing to do with the environment, but everything to do with satisfying the shareholders' lust for more wealth. They would cut down every last tree, with their bare hands, if they could get their greedy paws on more money.

It just goes to show that if they want to release a cheaper flagship, they can! Wouldn't it be odd if flagship prices would continue to go down?

The next step is to shove those Exynos SoCs straight to the garbage bin. Except they would overheat and cause a fire, burning down their building.

Anonymous, 11 Jul 2020$40 cheaper because it'll ship with no charger duhI simply don't understand. Apple and Samsung are two of the wealthiest companies in the world and they can't include a charger in the box for their customers? I don't believe the environment concern and cost saving rubbish. When have they ever cared about the environment? When have they ever cared about the prices customers pay for their goods? They just kept pricing their phones higher and higher. It really is all about making their customers pay for the charger that they should have included in the box.

If Samsung will not address the exynos problem, this phone series with exynos chipset will also suffer the same with S20 series.

Samsung has been rumoured to ditch any accessories in its retail box (as reported by Android Authority, there was also a short clip in its website/FB page).

Now that would make sense to keep costs down and also reduce waste at the same time.

The way I see it Samsung can keep blaming external factors such as the Corona on bad sales. Or they can look inwards and consider bad design choices, increasing greed, Exynos 990 etc. as contributing factors. But I know the new Samsung after DJ Koh will only look for bigger, bigger and even bigger profits, and it'll hurt very soon.

AnonD-754814, 10 Jul 2020How is this even possible ? For Note 20 ultra The SoC is ... moreSimple:
Put a little bit of expensive base phone.
Add a little bit of extremely exaggerated margin.
Mix with rival (iPhone 12) planned to come at a way lower price than anyone thought.

                          And voila !
You get yourself a Note20 that need to be more honestly priced to not be annihilated by its rivals (Apple and all other that will (have to) follow this agressive price strategy) which endup less expensive than its predecessor.

Even if it is normal that phone become more and more expensive because of more and more features added and more complex and pricier base components, it tell you a lot about the kind of margin companies practices and explain why phones like the OnePlus 8 serie for example, are so expensive despite being almost identical to a lot of similarly equipped phones for a way lesser price.

Some issues lie with the SOC provider as well. For instance Qualcomm. If they keep charging such exorbitant price for their 5G, then compniea will hve to follow suit and raise their phone prices as well.

As of now, I believe we seriously a good competition in SOC market. Mediatek is there but their GPU is rubbish.

xipxap , 10 Jul 2020majority of the customers don't they don't spend ... moreYes I agree, but I think more customers are becoming more savvy & more aware, especially now these devices are around the $€£1k mark, they'll surely be thinking twice in these times of uncertainty & checking reviews online & youtube where this increasing disparity between Exynos & Snapdragon is becoming more prevalent.
                              Exynos v's Snapdragon:

It's become a dealbreaker for me, as I said in my last post "Maybe it's different this time with the Exynos 992?", I won't hold my breath, but I hope they sort it out ASAP.

The slight price drop might be for including a 13MP periscope camera dropping flagship level 48MP sensor.
