They are FAR from perfect, especially knowing that they still hold a customer satisfaction rating that is still below industry standards.

OMG!! there are lots of people who don't think before commenting.. You all just look insecure. What's wrong with ONE unit that have exploded ? If the built/ structure/location of every piece of the hardwares of this phone, why other users don't experience it. This case absolutely/maybe has a good reason behind and not the manufacturer's fault.

All or almost all of the phone manufacturers already experienced this, so what will be your phone now if you'll get away from these explosion brands??? many of you talk like you know everything.. wait for the result of the investigation and do not start blabbing so many things to discredit the reputation of Samsung.

lol, the cpu has nothing to do with it, notice the battery is intacted, the fault comes near the USB socket, which to me is the circuit to regulate the voltage..

it's possible, the charger he is using might be a little over voltage, i'm perplexed as to why though, i'd kinda expect some kind of thermal shutdown before a semiconductor would burst, maybe something near to the regulator like a cap blew first and caused a short, total guess work...

either way, the battery is intact, no a major concern, was the charger even rated for galaxy devices?

Come on you guys, seriously? One galaxy S3 burns up and ure all over it? I don't see the apple fan boys commenting when multiple iphones burnt up or exploded? This is probably just a stunt from apple because they just lost the court battle to samsung over one of their patents and will possibly have to pay them quite a hefty sum of money!

I noticed since I bought my S3 that it heats up a lot but I thought it was normal since I used it to its max potential like
Download movies while playing games while using ymessenger. And now I'm starting to get worried the moment I saw this article. If this heat issue won't be fixed I think I would sell my S3 :-(

This means iPhones are also eligible for explosions, since iPhones are 90% Samsung patents anyway. ;)

For all people who don't like the Nokia 808.

I think I will just buy a phone and a separate Zippo. You Could buy these for the same price as an sg3.

Seriously I hope this is an isolated incident, anyone that has an sg3 is lucky.

P.S. Apple has successfully stopped sales of the sg3 in the Irish high court due to patent infringement.

I personally have a S3 and have left it on charge all night long, ive bashed it in terms of gaming and i have pritty much used it for music all day long. so after reading comments there was only one that was constructive "that happened to me when i used a LG charger on htc" but at the same time i have been using a htc charger cable through a iphones plug socket and had no bother what so ever.

other than that i hope the person is fine, half the people that took the micky i can tell ya if this happened to you i bet you would not post the stuff you have done

samsung does some advance in tech. than other. It is not bad, but ensuring security measures is benefit for consumer and sams.

I confess that I'm an official apple fan, but these issues are mostly circulated for stealing a new product's thunder.
S3 is a serious phone spec-wise and packing such a beast in a thin body costs much
The thing I want tot say is that does it worth it?
It is thin but absolutely cheapish, and non-ergonomic when held in hand (better for being slides to one's jeans pocket though)
It has a beasty 4 core with 32nm technology of samsung's own, but the S4 Qualcomm has frequently shown a more capable processor with far less consumption.
After all Android is not an optimized OS to extract all the benefit of the hardware!!
So I suggest , "no, it doesn't worth it at all"!!
