well microsoft did abandon their current users.. but what they are bringing into market is very very impressive.. i feel most of the current lumia users will shift to the new range.. i believe not all are angry.. those of us who are looking for upgrade can wait and then go for it.. i believe most of the Titan II and Lumia 900 users don't come in that list.
And by the looks of what HTC is bringing into market this fall.. I am expecting some really good things by other buyers too. I personally am waiting for the new Lumia range.

Please sit back and refresh memories. When WP7 was launched, Microsoft announced that version 7 will be the last to be based on the CE kernel. They have also confirmed then, that the next version (presumably version 8) will be based on an entirely new kernel. So the fact that WP7 won't get an upgrade to WP8 should not have ever been a surprise. Dissapointment yes, but not surprising. Still the mistake on Microsoft's part is to sacrifice customer goodwill for bragging rights. Customers who are now tied down to a 2-year Lumia 900 will be very upset. Doesn't matter if WP8 is good, there will be attrition and it will be hard to win back. The same happened between the Windows Mobile to Windows Phone transition. Ignoring customers meant even tough WP7 was a remarkable shift (for the better) away from WM6.5, customers refused to see pass WM6.5 failings when judging WP7. The same is likely to happen unless WP8 is really really a game changer.

Msft have NOT abandoned their users,they will be getting windows 7.8 which is actually windows 8 ,the differences are hardware based which you cannot change from the lumias or other select wp phones that were made(nfc,high res,micro sd slot,more cores) Microsoft just differentiate the different phones that have dual core and single core as 7.8/8.

N... moreu dont need to draw any picture.but what do u have to say about samsung being the most successful andriod brand?and talking about uniquesness...the sort of uniqueness nokia meant does not mean bein the only company to make WP8,nokia obviously wanted a customised WP n that they achieved with the MS agreement,dats y nokia maps replaced bing maps n the other additions nokia was allowed to make,so no matter hw many companies make WP,they would not have the same features with nokia's n u would agree with me dat all andriod fones r the same,no difference bt pple stil buy d andriod fones they lik..the same would happen with WP8 n nokia clearly has sm obvious advantages over other WP8 companies.

Quad core/ lcd2 / 2gb rams .. all that goodness and hardware!! then ... 8gb/16gb internal storage with no expansion sd epic *facepalm*

ppl expecting Lumia 800,900 to get wp8 is like...
wanting drive a bus with bike wheels...
that cant happen... LOL
I just bought Lumia 800 yesterday. still im waiting to get a new wp8 offerings...
don't cry for this... its not an upgrade...
its a HUGE platform change... wp8 has windows 8 core...

The HTC "Rio" got less specs than other WP OS in market yet it got WP 8 and old phone will not be upgraded !?
WP OS no more...
They killed WM 6.5 , They want to kill WP 7 & 7.5 soon.

Apple is no different with older handsets, they port some new functionality to old iOS variants, but unlike MS they give the result the same name as their lates iOS release. So people really believe that they will get iOS 6 for the iPhone 3GS, when in fact it's more like iOS 4 with three feature updates.
It's probably a good demonstration that deceiving customers can be better than being open and honest. MS should have told everyone that WP7.5 handsets will get Windows 8 too, just in a 'Lite' version which lacks a few features, and everyone would have been happy.

The simple reason Nokia went with WP is because when they talked to Google they didn't get any acceptable conditions to work with them. MS apparently does, as many changes in WP8 apparently have been stipulated by Nokia.

They both are like beta vsersions and from first day everyone knew they wont be updated as windows 8 kernel is very different.
But its pathetic how they test their os directly on consumers lol.
Android phone development is Getting slowed down because of manufacturers.
There are so many phone coming with 2.3 out of box unless u invest on a dual core.

Nokia didn't want Android because it takes a lot of resources and support to go the Android route. Every time there is a new update, it would take months to push that update to their phones. There is also a very popular mapping company called Navteq that is owned by Nokia. Nokia wants to use their own map, but Google uses their own map too. Navteq is being used widely from many companies like Garmin, Mapquest, Yahoo! Maps, NDrive, Bing Maps, Nokia Maps, etc....From what I know there will be more integration of Nokia Maps into Windows Phone 8.

Andriod will need to work much harder and come with something worth my while to even consider. As it stands, Android is fancy but more for teens and kids, not practical for business users.

MS pitfall is near, i was fan of Windows Mobile, i bought Windows phone thinking lot of Development will happen, now it seems there's no go with this WP, since MS decided to Abandon WP7.
Business ppl will be surely affected by this move.

Watch T-Mobile US choose the middle device again....just like the One S.
I hope Nokia pulls out all the stops and goes top of the line. They have no excuse with WP8. The OS is no longer holding them back, processor and resolution wise.
After I buy the PureView, a Nokia WP8 device, unless it is low spec, will be my next phone.

It's fairly easy to understand why they had to "abandon" WP7 users. Maybe if they used the name "Windows Phone 8 Starter" or "Lite" for the 7.8 update they didn't have to deal with a lot of negative responses from casual users. You would say "yes, this software is optimized for my hardware" and just live a happy life with your phone for one or two years at least.
