Anonymous, 20 Jul 2020Why does an 18w charger force you to charge to 100 percent ... moreIf I know I won't be sitting next to a power outlet the whole day, I can't just charge my phone to 80% and hope I'll have 30-40 minutes or more to spare to find a power outlet and wait for it to charge with 18W. If these 100W chargers are really that fast, then I only need a couple of minutes to get it back to 80%.

To clarify, i am using a pocophone. No fanboism, it just checks all the right boxes for me.
All im saying is, i want more options in the market for my next phone purchase..
So stop whining about new technology, embrace it.
If it matters to you, go get a super fast charging phone. If not then buy something else. Why discourage innovation with your useless comments here??? It baffles me.

Nothing wrong with newer technology, let the companies compete with each other and innovate to try and get my money..
Even if i use this feature only once, that "once" has its emergency use case. I don't need to use it every night.. And i am paying the same price they charged me last year, so whos complaining?

DrummerAJL, 20 Jul 2020Oppo has debunked that claim already with confirmed lab tes... morethis is true, even without the chinese testing, this is science 101, as long as the battery does not overheat, and is regulated properly it will not damage modern batteries, when the temprature increases so does the voltage, and it is that that degrades the battery, it is also factual that a battery can handle 75-80% high speed with no ill effects, it is the final 20-25% which the battery needs regulating, thats why all phones have slower charging speeds at this average capacity, think of it like you are filling a bucket of water, you can turn the water on full for the first 3/4 of the bucket as there is no risk to spilling, but as it gets fuller, the water has to be turned down incase of overflowing and spilling, the same works for modern phone batteries

Of course fast charging matters, pair it with a large battery like 6000mah and your phone will last 2 days with an hour or two of charging

Thus being said, I am not saying that super fast charging (like more than 40W) will damage your phone in the long run, but trusting this new technology blindly, just because some Chinese company says is ok, well..good luck with your phones.
I will be very curious to see a scenario with all the super fast charging phones after 2 years of usage. And not done by some Chinese company. And then I will trust super fast charging phones.

around 2years 3months n i do nt feel any degradation
fyi i received an update abt a few months ago
n it saved d charging time 2 about 15-30mins
n think they must have figured out a way in improving
those shortcomings as they always innovate m i right
they would not want to get any negative
feedbacks afterall that affect them right

Fast charger is matter if its comes with a big battery otherwise its not considerable. Big battery more then 5000 mah.

coming from an Oppo and Realme phones that both offered VOOC, one being two years old and the other a year old, i don't see much of battery degradation as claimed by many whom i believed don't even use these BKK family fast charging phones... battery wear and tear is normal, even in those common slow charging phones, so cut the nonsense... i don't use the fast charger daily though when i don't find the need to, a 2A or 2.1A output charger will do just fine to top up faster than the other common brand phones...
i don't leave my phone to charge overnight, as have no need to and have seen friends and peers do so with their common brands phones, they get 100% and the percentage drops faster than a phone that's freshly charged to 100% once its being used...

I believe fast charging is one of the most important aspects of new generation portable electronics. imagine how much we can reduce the electronic waste if we don't haul all sorts of powerbanks, cables, car chargers,etc... just to top off our stuff, when we can get them charged in the matter of few minutes with fast wireless charging when were out or even faster when were home with the new fast technologies! and later on with the advancement of battery tech, we can even have larger capacities with smaller footprint.

jakov1, 19 Jul 2020Using "overnight charging" and "concern for ... moreOvernight charging is usually not a concern with modern charging techniques. The phone shows 100% when it's probably fluctuating between 90 and 96%. You can even measure this. Trickle (over)charging is a thing of the past.
However, charged and heated batteries are the worst offender. This will likely not happen during overnight charging, since you are probably not using your phone. But a 90% charged battery at >40C degrades really quickly.
On the same note, pushing 100W into a hot battery will shorten its life. Most likely, the charging tech will not let you push 100W and limit you to

In an ideal world I would like faster charging speeds, but the world doesn't seem ready for it, yet. At home I have full access to all the energy and chargers I want, but nobody worries about their phone battery while at home. Meanwhile:
- most car chargers and built-in ports top out at 5V/2A
- motorcycle/bicycle have are really high-end if they can offer QC3.0
- newer powerbanks top out at QC3.0, some high-end ones offer PD. Do we need new powerbanks now?
- wireless charging is limited
- airplane ports, airport lounges - lucky to get 5V/2A, most of them limited to 1A
- a lot of cheap USB chargers struggle to offer 2A, and that's what you might get if you visit someone's house
- desktop computers rarely offer PD and I haven't seen one with QC. So 5V/2A if you are lucky
Given those, I don't even care what a new phone lists for charging speeds. I doubt I will be able to provide even the minimum 18W that most phones support, while travelling.
Anyway, the point is useless if the phones anyway cost +1000$. They can charge in one second for all I care.
