Gorilla Glass Victus unveiled: survives 2m drops and has twice the scratch resistance

23 July 2020
For comparison, Gorilla Glass 6 only promised to survive drops from 1.6m, competing glasses shatter at just 0.8m, says the company.

Test methodology being done shows best case to achieve better score.
Best case:
Face-first fall. Force distributed to a larger area lessens pressure applied per unit area.

Worst case:
Corner-edge impact fall. This will break Gorilla glass implementations. Only solution for prevention is to have thicker bezels on the sides/corners which as we know today were non-existent.

Great technology in any means. I really hope that there were not being overhyped by their marketing team.

      Same like clothing.. Aesthetics sells..

      I trust gorilla glass..

I don't use screen protector - 3 years and still no scratch on my phone.

Only silicon cover to protect the aluminium back..

My next phone will be a gorilla glass sandwich - with polycarbonate sides

So I don't have to use any cover..

IpsDisplay, 24 Jul 2020Boy watch as these fools eat up this B.S. This is gonna ... morei gather you have lack of chemstry and molecules structures understanding, it's possible that newer material designed and created using a hybrid of substances with diamond like hydrogen bonding on a molecular scale, it why diamond so hard, perfect rigid and durable strong structure within a diamond configuation as the hydrogen bonding is really strong, sapphire glass is another example of hybrid materials using extreme heat and pressure and artificial made sapphire, even ice which forms weak hydrogen bonding which creates less density and relatively hard structure.

it's possible that newer and less inexpensive substances can be utilised within glass to harden and make it significantly more durable

not just glass, metal frames such as xperia xz, xz1, ranges which used ALKALEIDO metal which is a hybrid aluminium forged by kobe metal for sony, it's unique on the basis it's not common brushed aluminium nor has the light 'streaking' common aluminium at a certain angle, this alloy allows multi angle subtle shimmering of light on the metal surface with no straight line streaking, very unique and nice to feel and look, shame it's not used anymore on other products

We still have good old plastic a literal polymer than can be strong enough to stop a bullet

We can engineer plastic to even biodegradable

And it can be engineered far more than glass

And plastic can be fused with glass for christ sake

But we still gonna end up with the same zombies

Saying glass feels premium... Is feeling premium a feature?????????

How much does it costs compared to previous generation? Don't just be like tge price difference of SD 855+ and SD 865,it is bad, yet doesn't benefit more aside from increasing prices of phones.

Amoled lcds Break easily from a fall, even when the glass is still intact.

So for amoled screens gorilla glass is less important.

Most all of these tests show impacts in the MIDDLE, using a flat strike. Also, the drop tests are typically with the screen parallel to the ground. This allows the energy to be displaced evenly across the surface. They SHOULD be testing them by dropping them on the corners.
This makes the energy be displaced from ONE point. Most phones don't hit flat, but, hit a corner and break.
