Let's say I only believe in 1st party like the main developers of the OS themselves. Yeah, the 3rd party guys develop such a gesture first but it's on an app, not on the stock settings itself.

I would never know such a thing can be done, let alone a consumer randomly come up with it out of the blue and search it only to find out it their "idea" was implemented a long time ago.

My main takeaway is that 1st party (guys like Andy Rubin, the other co-creator, and Tim Cook) matters the most.

        This has been already done.
One could easily set double tap, triple tap, long press, etc. on statusbar, launcher or on the hardware buttons through miui tweaks (third party app) way back in Miui8.
Nothing new. Miui simply rolling it out of the box in miui 12.

Power button wears down only of you are using one of those hard cases on top of it.
It won't wear down while using it naked without a case.
Besides, replacement costs as cheap as 5$.

It's Android, you can do anything.

IMO Xiaomi needs to be removing things from MIUI rather than further bloating it.

GSMArena would've make an article about that feature if it already existed for the past 3 years since I use an Android flagship. I mean, there's an excerpt in the article stating "is reportedly on its way to Google Pixel phones as well." so it's a new feature Apple came up.

I'm carrying my RoG Phone II with my large backpack and how I walk would kinda rumble/tumble my phone to the point that it might open by itself. I don't know if that would work but I'm avoiding something like this so it won't like burn-in my OLED.

The standardization begins. Apple innovated with the back tapping gestures and now Android wants some of that. I mean, that gesture is really useful. I could open my phone without wearing my power button down.
