I reckon its the way the screen should be for Unibody design like N9/800 etc.

Those who have used n9, Lumia 800 will know the difference. N9 resolution is better than 808, so the visuals on n9 will be better. I have both phones.
In any case, 808 is about the camera. If a pic taken with 808 looks good on 808, it will look superb on SGS3(yeah, the tests been done)

You are being very biased exhibiting your fancy towards nokia.

        - Both the phones you mentioned use AMOLED screens, CBD is another polarizer of Nokia
        - You have compared a 720p(although there are subpixels) with WVGA, not sure how you logic this. SGS2 which has similar res is not even close to S3.

I'll agree that N9 has beautiful screen but not to the exaggaration of your blatant lie.

Believe me, I playd with S3 in a shop, the screen is not impresive, I have Nokia N9 with rounded screen, the most nice screen I ever saw!

for me, I guess the most criminal thing about the 808 is that you may well be able to take some of the best photos ever with a camera, but you won't be able to appreciate them on the screen it comes with... you'll have to move them to a PC, TV, etc....

Anonymous, 28 Jun 2012I swear all you techy geeks miss the point most of the time... moreThat's exactly why only that 10% of the market will buy phones running other OS's...
No. It's not only a matter of Symbian or OS. This gorgeus phone deserved a screen that matched it. That resolution is lame. Lame, lame, lame. And I cannot help thinking of all those nice screens around for about the same price.

In the end, at least in my case, the usage of the phone for photo or video recording happens less than 5% of the time I'm using it. But I'll be looking at the screen more than 90% of the time (I only get my eyes off the screen when talking or listening to music -and not always-).

                Quite right too!

(I just wish it had been subsidised or at least a couple of hundred quid cheaper - I'd get a GS3, sell it and buy an 808 sim-free just to have something different I reckon!)

I swear all you techy geeks miss the point most of the time... it's all well and good arguing about what's better, Symbian/iOS/Android/RIM whatever but your thinking like tech guys not consumers.

Out of all the people I know, only around 10% even know what OS runs on their phone and they don't even consider it when buying a new handset.

The majority of users go on what the phone will let them do... and most users want a phone with basic app/email/web usage and a great camera

Nokia 808 does that and no one can get anywhere near them!

Who cares if it runs Symbian... certainly no more than 10% of the market!

Mag82, 28 Jun 2012No one wants symbian os because its pony. The last symbian ... moreYeah well because a shitty Satio running ancient Symbian S60 is the same as Symbian^3 (now called Nokia Belle), right? I mean Android 1.5 was shit so Android 4.1 Jelly Beans must be shit, too, right?

FYI: Satio was shit because it was made by Sony.

Dunno why everyone is getting so worked up about it - the article says it isn't available via contract, and not saying that it's not available at all in the UK...

Irrespective of whether the OS is good or not, this is nothing more than pure average revenue per customer - and Symbian users are not making the networks enough money for them to invest in bringing such a handset for their customers.

And on top of that, the number of Symbian users in the UK are far far fewer than users of the other operating systems, so this decision doesn't surprise me one bit.

We are not bothered. We don't need a smarphone because of its camera. Symbian is very poor OS which I will never ever have again.

This phone is for few symbian fans. Probably the last.
