Qimchi, 03 Aug 2020The compact phones really need to come back. People need to... morePrecisely. People needs to think about the aspect ratio as well. However, if its at 65mm wide 21:9 screen, it will be an ultimate flagship compact phone. Just like the glorious Z3 Compact days. Thats the last best compact phone from Sony in my opinion.

Anonymous, 03 Aug 2020Pro is something else. Not a better version of 1 ii ........ more'Zero chance they make something better than 1 iii for september/2021'

Then its same old same old strategy. Maybe its time for Sony to restrategize things. Who knows? Maybe 2021 they'll start something fresh.

My interest back to Sony since they introduce 1ii. That thing got everything to compete with others.

I hope they do as I really miss small phones. Glad to see some brands like Sony and Apple realising it and I hope that more brands realise it too.

Smaller pixels on oled screen = less light emission

Less light emission = keeps burn in away for longer time

You will never see a 4K screen with 750/800 nits.

While Apple and Samsung cares about loudness, Sony cares about quality.
Look at the new test here.
1 ii and 1 have the best results.

Hopefully they won't use the 21:9 screen ratio. The Xperia 1 II looked promising but the long and narrow form factor just doesn't do it for me. Sure 21:9 movies look great, but youtube videos and games with proper support are a pain to look at.

Not a better version of 1 ii .....

              1/1ii replace XZ2 Premium

              5/5ii replace xZ2/XZ3

Zero chance they make something better than 1 iii for september/2021.
Do not expect Sony to make like other brands that bring bigger phone with everything better like more RAM, storage and cameras.

I had all the Xperia compact phones and I loved them.
Then I made a switch to Galaxy S10e.
This year I will consider getting iPhone 12 (5.4").
Anyways, it's good to see compact size phones making a comeback :)

"People" don't "need to understand" that a 6.1" is possible in something called compact. No, you need to understand that some people just want a small, one-handed device. Both in width and height. What are we supposed to do with a ruler-like slab, literally swipe it all the way from top to bottom in our hand?

Nice predictions - I think they'll definitely come true. I hope Sony will also work on the stereo speakers, brightness levels and sidesense and multiscreen-functionality.

Sales worsen each year yet keep repeating the same thing. Like i said, better flagship (Premium) are needed on Q4 than Q2 as other competition become higher on that timing, but keep the Compact at the same time, slightly downgraded vanilla specs version, with cheaper alternatives.

I want the compacts to comeback as well, but I wonder how will they add them to their current flagship lineup, given that their new and current one is already pretty much uniform (1 Mark X for highest end model, 5 Mark X for lower flagship, 10 Mark X for mid range).

The compact phones really need to come back. People need to understand that 6.1" can be compact. Since screen ratios are not standard to 16:9 anymore they can increase in size vertically making the phone taller without making it wider. Hence, keeping it compact at a wideness of around 70mm or less

This requires a new firmware made from zero.

Same way they did not use 805 for Z3, 821 for XZ nor 855+ for 5.
