The company is facing supply issues as the US will block TSMC from producing more chips for Huawei starting in mid-September.

    It doesn't matter if Huawei make their own chip. If the US, Euro, Japan, and India ban them, who would buy?

It only takes a few years to fall behind. TSMC lead will not last forever. I'm guessing China is already pouring money into SMIC to compete with TSMC.

Trump has set a very bad precedent banning use of US tech on flimsy national security grounds. Other nations will look for and find alternatives to US tech for their products. Expect phone makers to dump Qualcomm and buy more MediaTek and Exynos chips from now on.

They c... moreThey will be prevented from building chips that have hardware based backdoors IMO, like the meltdown bug, they will be forced to use clean chips and to pay for those chips so that they have a harder time killing non chinese smartphone companies.

                                      If this is really the mate 40, I think there is a major flaw in the place of flash. Especially when someone put a case thick enough to protect the camera module. Flash will face problems as it will be reflected in the case.

They can apply for a license. Microsoft, Intel and AMD are still doing business with Huawei. The whole purpose of the ban is to stop them developing their own technology and taking business away from American companies so potentially they might be able to use Snapdragon chips
