US is banning Chinese companies so that ultimately they come under the US control. US wants TikTok be sold to an American company, nobody should sell chips to Huawei but Qualcomm; I am sure they will allow Qualcomm engage in the deal. Trump himself once said they "can't allow anyone cross they" in the 5G race. Amid all this, losers are the consumers. Qualcomm has already monopolized the chip market and it will gain further power by being sole chip provider to Huawei. Well, that is capitalism at its highest.

Whackcar, 10 Aug 2020If Huawei starts using Snapdragon chips on their flagships,... moreI wouldn't agree that there is a stark difference between SD and Kirin. In fact in the midrange Kirin offers better SoC than any competition (e.g. Kirin 810 and 820). Kirin SoC offers the best AI as well.
Although competition is always good, this ordeal as you call it, is not how technology should be advanced. The US is trying their best to destroy the most advanced communication technology firm.

Kirin chipsets are weaker comparing to qualcomm top Snapdragon offerings, Huawei users would only win from the deal, but in other words Qualcomm monopoly of high end chipset market already negatively impacting SOC prices and as we know 875 will cost like couple hundred dollars per chip, which is crazy, in other words, **** Qualcomm, hope Media Tek or Samsung will get deal, enough of this insane price hikes.

The truth is that the US companies need china more than the chinese companies need them. The ban on google services has not affected huawei today and they are still growing strong. Also, the ban on we chat will completely wipe out apple's second largest market. With huawei's harmony os and oneplus' Hydrogen OS, chinese manufacturers still have a bright future. Today the largest market for Qualcomm chips is china and their companies use the snapdragon chips more than samsung or even nokia. The US has a good point, but the execution is similar to shooting yourself on the foot. The trade wars should not extend to software, especially on android and apple ecosystem.

1. The RYYB Colour problem
2. Gets you an wider field of view
3. Gives you macro mode
4. Gives you less bokeh (means more focus area)
5. Gives you better low light video than the main cam of the P40 Pro

Now wi... moreHuh, now that you mention it, it seems the 40 MP "ultra wide" sensor has actually better specs than the main sensor in the Mate 30 Pro. Weird. I didn't really care about ultrawides because I rarely use it but I do realise the Cine sensor is miles ahead of the competition. Calling it an ultrawide is a bit stretch as the focal length is smaller than the rest. I couldn't find an article that truly explains about the technology. I'd like to know what the name of the sensor is (or maybe there isn't).
P40 Pro definitely gets the crown when it comes to still photography due to it's huge sensor.

If you look for colour accuracy, use the 40MP ultrawide cine camera. It has an RGGB sensor, good details and more accurate colours. The RYYB is only for lowlight. For video definitely use the ultrawide cam, it can shoot in pitch black. My fav cam of the year so far is the P40 Pro (not plus) and Note 20 Ultra.

Well, this is going to become opinionated but I prefer Apple and Google's colour science / post processing, they just looked cleaner and more natural. Samsung is no. 3 while Huawei is no. 4. I really didn't like how the pictures I took were...weird on the Mate 10. I had too much expectations for it. I changed to Xiaomi Mi 9T and it was sooo much better. Even the P series had some problems back then but not as bad as the Mate series. The only way Huawei could beat everyone in still photography was by using an exclusive flagship Sony sensor. They seem to have changed it for the better in 2020.

It's unfortunate in this climate of uncertainty that our moronic president is trying to kill off Huawei. I'm a Huawei user and their phones are awesome however I'm now left with choosing another phone manufacturer because of his insistence with thus company. I'm an American who enjoys all types of gadgets and I'm hoping Xiaomi will be my next phone manufacturer because they're not on any black-list..yet

They will have inferior AI.
They will have to retune their image processing again.
They will have to optimize ot from the start.

RYYB absorbs more red and yellow colour which makes image warmer, so you need that complex colour processing to do it. So the viewfinder looks simillar to the final results. I told you, it is the colour not the results

This is... moreFor qualcomm it would be good business, and for huawei would be a way to gain trust that their products do not contain hardware backdoors at least in the processor. Pretty much win-win, I just think huawei wouldn't like that at all, they love their tampered processors.

It is proved by the AI benchmark, and ... moreYou can literally use those features with other phones, it doesn't need all that AI stuff, it's all software implementation. I remember when AI mode scene detection first appeared on Huawei camera software, all it did was made the image oversaturated so some people just disable it. They've toned down later on.
Like I said, RYYB captured more light hence it did the job not the ISP. The RGB version needed the night mode by creating a pseudo-long exposure which captured more light. In daylight, RYYB doesn't have any advantages. ISP also doesn't necessarily make the image better, take for example Pixel 3A / 4A and Oneplus Nord. They do however increase the limitations of the phone's imaging capabilities. Also strangely enough, Mate 30 Pro images looked worse than P30 Pro despite having the same camera sensor and better chipset.
Can't speak about X50 Pro+, there's no review and only one guy in Youtube managed to get hands on but even that wasn't in-depth enough. On paper, the GN1 seems like the best sensor before IMX700. S20 Ultra's camera sensor had lower micron size but also had nona bayer which should improve low light. Nevertheless, any phone won't come close to an RYYB sensor unless you use night mode.
The battery efficiency I was talking about only applied to Kirin 990 5G otherwise it seems to be pretty good but I can't say whether it's better than Snapdragon or Mediatek due to some discrepancies such as battery size, resolution and software. 11 Pro Max, Oneplus 8 Pro and S20 Ultra (Snapdragon) lasted longer than P40 Pro.
