Qualcomm tries to persuade the US government to let it sell chips to Huawei

Otherwise, Qualcomm competitors could benefit from the ban.

Qualcomm is only superior to Kirin in GPU and C... moreI was disappointed that the Kirin 990 was using last gen architecture for the CPU and GPU, it makes it look outdated but hey, not like the average consumer will notice. I don't see how AI in mobile chipsets have any meaningful impact in real day usage unless someone can tell me what's it used for. Integrated 5G modem saves space but doesn't necessarily mean better, Mediatek and Exynos 880 and 980 also use integrated 5G modem. I don't see how ISP has anything to do with using RYYB sensor considering it's exclusive to Huawei. RYYB is only useful during night as it captures more light which is why it doesn't require night mode, heck it gets worse if you use night mode. It's slightly more battery efficient due to it being manufactured by TSMC's 7nm FINFET+ EUV which no one not even Apple uses so they've definitely got the upper hand in that.

My only gripe about Kirin is their strangely bad support for video codecs. They started being able to encode 4K since Kirin 960 (flagships) and 820 (midrangers) and no hardware encoding for VP9 and HEVC 10 bit. Software encoding resulted in dropped frames for higher resolutions although thereotically it should be able to handle it. I tested this on Kirin 970 and 810. It could be that the fact it's American, I dunno.

AnonD-783442, 10 Aug 2020wait for the exynos 1000 next year.Ditto of my previous comment, and well, no one guarantee that it will be really better than the Snapdragons which could stay on top on many (if not all) aspects, also the 865+ and 875 are coming, so...

Also I always heard that Snapdragon had better AI than Kirin, for the power efficiency, I don't know but with integrated 5G chipset indeed it is logical that the Kirin are better.

              US should not kill competition.

I'd prefer if Huawei used Mediatek instead of Snapdragon, they're cheaper and better for the time being. There's a reason why Redmi is using a lot of Mediatek.

Knowledge is power and Huawei is the most technically advanced Chinese company in terms of R&D and 5g patents and they are the only Chinese company that currently designs their own chips which is why they are being focused on. The other Chinese brands are not much of a threat as they just purchase chips from Snapdragon or Mediatek or Samsung and have very little of their own technology.

TSMC bow down to US pressure is pretty weird tbh considering that they made the chips using lithography machines from ASML, which is a Dutch company. And then Kirin chip is designed using ARM achitecture which is owned by a British company owned by Japanese. I don't know how US can force this sh*t things to happen tbh.

Wait. . . What!? Huawei with Snapdragon SoCs? OMG 😍😍

On the other hand if they get to use Snapdragon it would be awesome though SD mid range SoC aren't as powerful as Kirin
