Underdisplay camera is the stupidest tech we could ever comeup with, not only the pop up do everything better, but underdisplay camera is like the Antichrist of privacy, privacy being WAY MORE important than any display design :

Or just ditch the front camera altogether and put a deployable double mirror on the back to allow for selfies and video call, it would fix all issues, be cheaper and easily replaceable in case it break, be privacy friendly and would allow for using the better main sensors for selfies.
This would also allow to use the main sensors to make facial recognition, helped with a good ToF sensor (with around 12MP) to be used both for 3D facial recognition and picture processing quality boost.

The other parts of the screen is opaque as before. Only the selfie cam part have the top OLEDs a bit transparent. So if you see the content, the part that have thr selfie cam will lack contrast. Which isn't ideal.

Why didn't the engineers behind the technology think of this

You need to message them and tell them.

Next launch a phone with full screen FPS

As phones are getting taller and taller aspect ratios, when viewing standard content (16:9 or even 18:9) there are already unused/black bar portions of the screen. If there were to be slight non-uniformity at the under display sensor area, at least it will be out of the way.

India has a population that find the iPhone very undesirable and overpriced, China its considered treason to buy one & west europe, east europe, most of asia & MEA regions clearly prefer Androids. :I

Good news, that could means that other manufacturers with better and updated phones will do it later. For me perfect as i never use the selfie camera, so not watch it is the best for me.

RC255, 12 Aug 2020Because Apple and Samsung have never... exaggerated feature... moreWell honestly I tried to search for Apple's false advertising and I literally couldn't find anything more than some dumb people trying to sue Apple for "hiding the notch" in one ad (aka showing off the deep blacks on the oled display that merges with the notch) or for their iOS taking space out of internal storage.

Apple doesn't really need to lie like the chinese manufacturers because they don't need to compete as much for their customers.

The things is, its already doable. Xiaomi and i presume Samsung already have the prototype for this.
As the article stated, the problem is the image quality thanks to the screen as lens thing.
Samsung and xiaomi most probably won't release it until it have decent image quality.

But it seems ZTE say, f*ck it. let's release it as is and get decent promotion as the "world first"

If it's good enough for video chatting then it is enough for people like me who take almost no selfies.
