IIRC when the ban first happened it was said that existing devices will not be affected and with 90 license phones released in that period would also remain unaffected and Google will continue to support new updates to those devices so why the limbo now? And as far as updates go Huawei updates even their mid range my friends Y9 Prime 2019 got Android 10 and EMUI10 in December or start of January and currently has July 2020 security patch which arrive around every two months

Al Ifran, 15 Aug 2020I really like Huawei's mobile. I want Huawei's re... moreAgree with you. I really love my Huawei. Hope they can sort out there issues.

If this causes any trouble for existing European users, we will sue the US and Google to the full extent. Heck, we should have done that already when the first executive order came along.

It's not that we love the US way to handle things anyway, so let's hope they lose this round to China. Of course China isn't without their issues, but at least they are not acting like ***** towards the rest of the world.

Or better yet, let's settle this whole issue nice and fast. Huawei is making good products and so is Google. I would hope to see them cooperating in the near future again.

But since that's not likely, I fear we'll see tensions rising, until China takes Taiwan and TSMC under very tight control and all the US companies are denied access to their chips, unless any and all bans are lifted.

Anonymous, 15 Aug 2020Huawei is still selling in tons to 3rd world countries. Peo... moreNot from a 3rd world country (well technically I am, but not leaving there for couple of years already), but I am poor and I still buy iphones.
This thing with only rich people and spoil brats buy iphones, is the biggest misconception of all.
I paid for my iphone 160EUR (second hand with 1 year warranty). Yeah, the design is outdated for 2020 standards, the battery is not very good (even though I can have a new one with 30EUR), but I have the latest IOS 13.6.1 (the same IOS like on 11 Pro Max) and the phone is absolutely amazing. No lag (not even small hick-ups that you have on mid-range and low-end Android phones) and I even play some games on it (with Apple Arcade connected through my TV ), no heating, nothing.
So, you can have iphones for the money you pay for a low-end Android phone. A second hand 2-4 years old iphone is better than a low-end Android phone. ALWAYS.
No matter what lies the Android fanboys will tell you. Trust me, I had tried the majority of low-end Android phones companies.

Petrica, 16 Aug 2020Nokia n9*. Also, Samsung had wave OS or Mozilla created Fir... moreI wasn't on the phone business back when the N9* was there, my first smartphone was a Samsung Wave with Bada as OS on it, then I switched to Android on an Acer E700 Trio.

The thing is, of course one thing would come on top, peoples wanted apps because apps were practical, they had purposes, it is like if, in modern days, you had to choose between two computer OS, one with tons of softwares, and another with very few softwares you can install, you don't have any browser alternatives, no picture retouching software, no game library, etc, OBVIOUSLY it will fail.
Making an alternative OS mean making a good one, this including being easy to get introduced to and to use for non tech literate users and have the variety of specific apps that more techies will want.

Apps are just self concealed softwares that you install in one clicks, don't need to check the website for update, are compatible and run after install without requiring tons of tweaking, and what also devine them is that they are available through an easy access (pre installed) official library, that's the main common theme between apps, and like softwares, if your computer doesn't have many available, you don't have much to do with it.
This is why Linux haven't taken over Windows yet, because there are SO MANY things that you can't do on it, gaming is just now catching up and it is far from done.

The BIGGEST issue for someone making its own OS nowadays would be the availability of softwares/apps that could run on it.
And it is difficult but not impossible, actually you can even attract tons of new developers with some smart strategy and have a good enough library at launch to sustain your OS until more and more apps/softwares get developed.
But CLEARLY, Android and iOS aren't the way to go, open source is the future, and free from corporate and government with a code everyone with coding knowledge can check, doesn't contain any privacy dangerous thing, is the only way we should aim.
What happen here is the proof that Android, that is half open source, isn't open enough, no OS should have the power to rule out a brand just because a government is unhappy about another country.
