Now to chime in on the discussion: OLED is an intermediate until miniLED (which is LCD) becomes commonplace in smartphone screens. It basically combines all the pros of OLED and LCD. You can't go wrong with that. Now it's just time to wait until the first miniLED smartphone hits the market.

Praise the QLED/VA Panel Lords that smartphone plebs don't even know about so can't shill my love for them here. Back to fighting the pixel response time wars on r/pcmasterrace.

Asus doing the pro gamer move with Zenfone 7 60hz LCD for the 'flagship killer, 3+ year crowd' and Zenfone 7 Pro with 90/120hz OLED for the 'I want everything for least price' crowd. Long live Asus! Long live Taiwan!
Now time for rant:
All current display technologies have their pros and cons. OLED offer great contrast and hence amazing movie watching experience. They lack the durability, longevity and color accuracy (Sometimes as bad as TNs) of other display types. IPS on the other hand offers great color accuracy especially with brighter shades at high brightness so is great for people with more 'outdoor people' or those who have alternative devices for video consumption. It just doesn't have the great battery life, responsiveness, 'sharpness' and contrast of others (IPS contrast is the worst of the lot).
Higher refresh rates on the other hand is a completely different story as it is more of an addon feature. I personally feel 60hz is 'slow' so any improvement would be felt by consumers. Above 120hz, it gets into enthusiast territory, mainly gamers. 90hz is good enough but it doesn't scale well with lower refresh rate content. 120hz is a perfect multiple of 60hz, 30hz and 24hz which gives it much better scaling. You can always refresh at lower rates of 60hz to save battery so it's not like you lose much. And with adaptive refresh rates (works best with higher refresh range), it might actually save more battery.
I have 60hz monitor and 144hz monitor at home. When overclocking the 60hz to 75hz, I can clearly feel the smoothness in cursor movement, text scrolling and general responsiveness. 144hz is much faster but if I down clock it to 120hz, the difference is quite hard to spot. It's a logarithmic growth in smoothness. I'm a pretty casual user and my more serious gamer friends can even spot a difference between 144hz and 165hz on their monitors. I'd argue 120hz is the perfect spot and difference from 60hz is very apparent. If you're getting a phone with flagship processor, I believe you'd be interested in 'more smoothness' over comprises. What good does 865 bring over 765 for a casual user then!
TLDR: If you want a 2020 phone, get yourself a 120hz panel (or at least 90hz) and choose the display technology IPS/OLED according to your use case. Stop flaming other for their choices for their use case may be different from yours.

Main advantage of the high refresh rate isn't gaming but the user interface. Some people have issues going back to 60Hz after trying a high refresh rate, because it makes the day-to-day experience MUCH smoother. I'd pick a 120Hz phone with midrange cpu over 60Hz phone with flagship cpu any day of the week. The high refresh makes the phone FEEL much faster than it is, that's what it's really about. Gaming is just small part of it.

Why you call OLED a superior technology, when it has worse sun viewability, burns in, makes eyes bleed and gives weird colours, especially with DC dimming? boo hoo, but the blacks are deep!

As usual, most of you commenting/arguing about nonsense specs.
Most of you could tell one screen from another if they were properly calibrated. I've been using 120 screens for at least 30 years, believe it or not youngsters, you buy good old solid cathode ray tube monitors and tv's that did 120 refresh rates, b&o made some, Sony professional made lots.
Most of you couldn't tell the difference between a good sub HD screen and 4k,just as you can't with with sub 60 or 120's,its marketing hype, nonsense, all of it.
My eyesight is still much better than most peoples, I've been trained for accurate true colour jobs since a young kid, had access to tech labs that would make you wet yourself, have access to folk in the trade of high quality medical monitors, so I reckon I can safely say, most of you haven't a clue about the subject your all "experts" in suddenly.
Until the next generation of power source for mobiles arrives, all high spec displays do is kill batteries quicker.
Its not a phone with a few smart tricks, it's almost a full spec mobile pc that can connect to mobile networks and that can also work as a phone.

They now Just launch a pro version with amoled and 90/120 Hz for 1000$. The lcd 60 versión on 500 is fine.
