It doesn't have a 3k screen and no external storage. Xperia has the best battery life on a phone, they optimize extremely well, and the main camera is made by Sony, but there is no shame of having other company's sensors.

It has beautiful bright 90Hz 3k screen and the best stereo sound in business (after iPhone of course). It's fast, reliable, makes excellent, zero efforts, very consistent photos in all conditions. Xperia 1 II with hit or miss cameras (two of four of them are made by Samsung which is a shame), worse stereo speakers and haptic engine, useless 4k 60Hz screen, rubbish selfie camera, not any better battery life is certainly on the loosing side. Also I have Huawei P40 Pro which I traded-in with my 6 month old Xperia 5. So I see no single point to even look at Sony side. Unfortunately they will always be few steps behind the competition. Cheers!

I am not into those extremely overprocessed night shots from usual suspect NightModes anyway.
I like the night time remaining night-ish in my photo shots, dont want every shadow to be overexposed and unnatural. Gives em photos somewhat more punch.

Although if you cherrish best multimedia phone experience, you might reconsider Xperia despite you not appreciating its camera qualities and control. It won EISA award in that category afterall.

Apart from a-la pro photographers experience it gives you nothing. The final result is still inferior to modern iPhones, Huawei or Pixel. Also I clearly see that so called pro photographers / Sony fans Youtubers are kindly omitting abysmal selfie camera quality - the worst ever seen on any expensive flagship phones for the last 3 - 4 years. Of course "pro guys" just don't need it :)!

I had Xperia 5 for the last 5 or 6 month (just got rid of it - swapped with Huawei P40 Pro). Night photos from that were one of the worst I've seen for years. Yes,my wife's iPhone XS isn't very good at night either but other than that I like photos coming out from it more than Xperia 5 (and Xperia XZ2 I used to had around 2 years ago). All I liked about Xperia 5 was design and call quality. And this it pretty much it.

I have plenty hand held night shots from few Pixels (2 - 4) as well as from few Huawei flagship phones. Also recently I had Xperia 5 for 5 - 6 month. Hand held night shots from it is a mess regardless the number of attempts I made. Even my old LG V35 did much better job there. I didn't have Xperia 1 II yet but I don't believe that it's drastically different from Xperia 5.
