I didn't see it, but my point is, that is not a real night mode because others are doing differently and much better. Xperia 5 II/ 1 II with a proper GCam would show you potential of night shots.

VectorR, 29 Aug 2020This is your "scientific theory" mate, nothing mo... moreYouTubers have proved nothing cause most of the guys are regular joes taking sample images of flowers and tall buildings. That was my whole point in the previous post.

I had iPhone X, iPhone XS Max and now I have 11 Pro Max so I'm very well aware of what iPhone can do and what it can't do. XZ2 Compact was taking better low light shots that iPhone X at any time of the night as long as there is a single light source such as street light, things I could do with XZ2 Compact in low light was something that neither Pixel nor iPhone X could do until watercolor smudge fest of Night Mode showed up. Then there is a burst, iPhone couldn't give you quality burst sequence while XZ2 Compact was shooting 5fps at full res with object tracking and focus lock on it. So when you had your girl spinning in a dress you could choose from a plethora of images on XZ2 and none on iPhone cause it doesn't track the object, it just has fixed focus from the first shot so if object moves it becomes out of focus. Same story with Live image vs Predictive Shot, Live image gives you original photo plus 5 or 6 lower res photos while Predictive shot gives you 4 full-res photos. Not that it matters at all but these are all downfalls.

Here is another one where the iPhone fails due to computational photography: minimizing bulb hotspots. iPhone has a set of actions in frame stacking to minimize light source hotspots so at night time bulb hotspot will be quite small compared to Sony's hotspot, job well done. Then you shoot at daytime against the sun and iPhone turns into a super-aggressive HDR creature that makes the sun the brightest hotspot we ever encounter in our lifetime so minuscule as a small white dot on the image with dirty clouds around it. That's a huge fail and it shows how software can't recognize sun from the street light bulb.

And when you are talking about YouTubers here is a good one that explains a lot how computational photography fails as much as hardware. Enjoy https://youtu.be/fC7nICx0eOo?t=94

VectorR, 29 Aug 2020This is your "scientific theory" mate, nothing mo... moreIf you watch real photographer/videographer or phone camera photograph/video entusiast reviews you ll see nothing but praise of Xperias 1 II cameras. Its weaker in some preset mode features, but excells in some equally important other camera aspect features like white balance across the board, natural bokeh, focus speed, etc...

If you watch smartphone reviewers that dont know much about real photography issues but reason solely on auto point n shoot hdr effects of statics, you ll hear your reasoning.

It was clearly stated in many reviews, Xperias camera setup is excellent and can achieve certain results no other phone can in quality terms, but IS NOT intended for common smartphone users that want to only hassle with automodes, giving them only limited postprocessing scene results without any additional control over end results.

1 II has (auto) night mode. On the screen loads circle for 3-4 seconds and you need to hold the smartphone steady.

iOS Never Again, 29 Aug 2020Yes Youtubers have already proven this. Xperia 1 II do the same night samples quality like 11 Pro and any Pixel. I can proof that.
Give me best samples from that smartphones and I will give you night samples in auto mode (1 II). Come on.

Depends on the price, they have a hit here. I would seriously take a look at this as my next phone.

iOS Never Again, 28 Aug 2020Slap on their face now. The 60hz brigade is finally silenc... moreStill, Sony should keep the 4K resolution on their halo flagship lineup (1 series or Premium lineup), which considered as Sony all-star phone. It's their trait. It's their heritage. It's their special feature. 4K was Sony answer to criticism of reviewers and haters on why they didn't put QHD on their phones back in 2014. They only put QHD twice, Z4 Tablet (2015) and XZ3 (2018). Other than that, they never utilize the QHD resolution again due being "a gateway" resolution, especially when Sony is a multimedia expertise corporation where FHD & 4K contents are the major resolutions in the industry.

Removing 4K from their lineup is like removing S-Pen from Galaxy Note series, putting a notch or punch-hole Vivo NEX and Xiaomi Mi Mix series. Sacrilegious and generic at its best, and definitely not worth the sacrifice (considering Xperia niche market targeting). What I would to see is 4K@90Hz on the 1 Mk3 (a win-win solution), if Qualcomm decided to support it in SD865's successor though... Don't blame Sony if 1 III doesn't have HRR and reutilized MBR again, as Qualcomm being negligence to bring update to 4K resolution from a such powerful chipset that had been staying since SD810... There I said it.

P.S. Sony used to have 120Hz HRR screen back on their XZ, X and XA2 series phones, but it was never being activated due tons of limitations they facing compared to modern HRR smartphones.

You can disagree with me, but remember, that's what happened. 🤨

In reality, Pixel and iPhones make better photos than any Xperia regardless of your glorious knowledge and time waste with Lightroom / Photoshop. That's it. End of story.
