At the end of the day, you have to give customers what they want instead of useless 4k screen.
Sony doing a good job here. Worldwide availability is still slim and price will be high.

Ppl that do not understand judge easily.
I think it is funny when they compare a phone that uses HDR/stacking all the time against ones that do not. Then they say phone 2 has weak DR without checking how phone 2 would do in case HDR was used. Also ignore that without HDR on, phone 1 will show same issues to deal with exposure.
They ignore how much mess HDR can do with photos, especially WB. To me it is bizarre photos white ppl have yellow skin tones (Apple magic feature) , cloudy skies that have blue clouds instead of gray ones ( Samsung) dark brown hair and clothes that becomes black (Google Pixel).
Simple fact photo shows wrong WB already means camera fail its job. But some ppl use the lame excuse that fake looking photos are instagram happy to justify.
There are many types of photography and sony is trying to cover as much as they can.
Not just photos of food and ppl standing still like other do.
First phone do to burst mode with AF was XZ1, so far no phone from any other brand has it.
Google tried to copy Predective Capture with Top Shop and miserably fail.
No AF and less than 3MP resolution while XZs can do 19Mp with AF.

VectorR, 28 Aug 2020No hardware on this planet can help to deliver enough infor... moreWhatever you call computational photography which is actually set of post-processing actions applied to an image just like in Photoshop adjustments such as unsharp filter, edge detection, color correction, luminance masking etc. Problem with that is they have few sets of actions dedicated to only few situations such as landscape, foliage, sky, people, faces, buildings, general high frequency, general low frequency and that's about it. And even that works half of the time.
Computational photography as is right now is only good for bushes, buildings.. and that's about it. Even in portraits, there are numerous errors in post-processing mainly with color whenever skin color RGB recipe fails and makes a derevative. That's how you get S20 super-expensive flagship to color half of the face yellow and another half blank because melado has was in the frame and sun was hitting the face at a certain angle so software wasn't sure if that's Caucasian or African American in the image. Another aspect where comp photography fails is moving objects and motion blur, it just can't make proper motion blur of either a background of the subject or of the subject against still background. That's elementary photography stuff. Due to aggressive frame stacking to broaden up the dynamic range that simply doesn't exist, the camera is limited in what it can do.
It's whole another story when people are awed because they can see through the window in the distance far away from the shooting subject instead of getting all white spots and leaks. Because of that, we have photography "reviewers" who will tell you Pixel does it better because you can see through the window while dogs which where the subject of the photo are all dark all together with the couch they are sitting on. Either camera didn't properly expose the dogs or user has tapped on the window in the background to level the light, whatever it is it's wrong looking.

What I mean by improving are by using hardware, either with a good usage of OIS or the built-in gimbal like Vivo does (implementation on it also needs improvement, right now eventhough Vivo using the tech, there are still lots of room to improve).

Unless you are cropping from 4,5K or above.
Phones will crop at least 1.1x while using EIS. This means that 3840x2160 becomes 3456x1944 or lower according to how much crop is applied.
That super steady mode few brands using from UWA, are always 1080p because they crop 2x to meet FOV of main camera (from 13 to 26mm). Resolution drops to 1/4.

Go to 13:50 to see the results about color grading. In my opinion, stabilization on it still not as good as iphone & samsung. But yeah, when u seriously making a good cinematography, using gimbal is the way to go.
Improve stabilization, built-in ND filters (pretty much like what Oneplus prototype does), it will make Sony very capable & serious about cinematography. Oh about the 4k 120fps on other comment, u right, we still dont know about the results. But knowing Sony, now with Cine Alta involvement, rest assured it will be good.
I'm dissapointed with Sony before, but looks like now they are waking up.
