Xiaomi teases sub-€300 Mi 10 phone with 5G connectivity, "brand new" Snapdragon 700 chip

01 September 2020
This means not the 765/768, the only 5G-enabled chips in the 700-series. And definitely not Poco X3's Snapdragon 732.

I think the redmi note 9s also have a version of software update of 5g connectivity.

I want to revise my estimate on numbers of new phone that can xiaomi release within this year, instead of 30 maybe it can reach to 50 new models.

It seems currently there's nothing else to fit their description than 768. If it was the case, they'd really have to cut corners so their other midrangers stay alive. Or there'll be a new budget chip.

We haven't mentioned here Mi A-series yet. And phone like Mi A3 was would fit the description. Or Mi Play maybe, who knows.

Anders, 01 Sep 2020There's already a sub €300 Mi 10 phone. The Mi 10 Lite... moreFirst of all, there is also a version of the Mi 10 Lite which has 8/256 GB. It’s very rare, but it exists.

Second, it doesn’t need a bigger battery. That would only make the phone thicker (yuck). If you have seen GSMArena’s review, you will have noticed that the Mi 10 Lite has one of the longest lasting batteries, beating its competitors in almost every usage scenario. Optimizations and energy efficient SoCs make wonders.

In my opinion, this phone will use the Snapdragon 768(G). Even though it’s not a new chip per se, it is new in the sense that this new member of the Mi 10 family might be the first phone to use it. As far as I know, no other phone has used the 768 yet. At least, not international, wide-spread models. Also, the 768 is the most powerful premium mid-range SoC, some 20% faster than the 765. For this reason, I find it very difficult to believe that Xiaomi could use an even faster 700-series SoC, for less than 300 euros. Remember that the Mi 10 Lite, which uses the 765, was launched internationally just ~3 months ago, for 350 euros! Even if they will use the 768, they’d have to cut back on a bunch of things, if they want to sell this upcoming phone for under 300 euros. The AMOLED screen might be the first to go.

Besides, Qualcomm releasing 4 5G SoCs in the 700 series, in just 12 months??? We have the 765, the 768 (refresh of the 765), the alleged new chip which this Xiaomi Mi phone will use, PLUS the upcoming 775. But the 775 is only expected ~4 months from now, so it can’t be the one in the next Xiaomi Mi phone. It’s a bit confusing, but we’ll see in the following weeks.

Don't bother wasting your money on this phone. They will just abandon software updates for it at once they launch it just like they did for the Mi Mix 3 5G.
