Qualcomm teases Snapdragon 4-series chip with 5G, announces 8cx Gen 2 for Windows laptops

02 September 2020
Motorola, Oppo and Xiaomi will be the first to deliver affordable 5G phones using the new Snapdragon chipset.

It’s very nice to get 5G in the 400 series, but I would have liked some hints about the upcoming 775 and the 875 SoCs.

Do you even own a OnePlus 8 Pro? If so show me proof. With photos.

8cx Gen 2... Just a little boost on performance and adding 5G it seems. I'm more interested in a new generation of Kryo which built based on A78 and X1. That would be interesting... 🤔

Snapdragon chipsets r best among all others ..... While dimensity chipsets have caught all eyes..they will never be as Snapdragon chipsets in terms of raw performance and efficiency.....

I am clearly talking about Mediatek Dimensity chip here.
Did you see how much the X50 pro or other 865 devices heat up temperature wise?
Dimensity stays throttle free and stays cool as a cucumber without any throttling issues.

Redmi note 8 pro uses Mediatek Helio chipset whose throttling issues are known.
Maybe you need to do more research.
But I can understand your failure since your 50$ smartphone must be lagging.

iOS Never Again, 03 Sep 2020Use Mediatek Dimensity and come back and tell me the same thing. While I don't trust Antutu, there was a comparison between realme X50 Pro and Redmi K30 Ultra. Realme X50 Pro stays at 600k, Redmi drops to 440k.

Have few friends running Redmi Note 8 Pro and has mentioned about heat build-up and a bit of throttling.

Also MTK chips have poor drivers and weak ISP.

Come back once you done your research.

At least for Xiaomi's domestic market, users are losing interests in the so-called "flagship killer". Pocophone F1 was a complete disaster with a world wide sale of barely 700000 units. (Pocophone was never introduced into Chinese market because there was ZERO interests in Pocophone from Xiaomi's domestic consumers. Xiaomi's high management has never openly endorsed Pocophone concept since that disaster.) Xiaomi learned the lesson, and quickly replaced that failed Pocophone with a more sensibly designed K20Pro, which was a near success with a sale over several millions. K30Pro based on the same formula of K20Pro has been less than a success so far. The massive success of K30Ultra, as a replacement for K30Pro, is a good forecast for an entirely different trend.

The traditional flagship-killer (a near bare-bone phone with a flagship SoC) will be replaced by a new type of phone with a near-flagship SoC but centered on "all-around near-flagship experience". K30Ultra and Realme X7Pro are among the first examples of that new trend.

                        The smartphone trends for 2021:
                        1) A massive 5G smartphone takeover:
Although a world wide transition to 5G service is still many years away, but a world wide transition to 5G smartphones is almost there. Be ready for a world wide campaign: "5G phones as better 4G phones" and "5G phones for legacy 4G markets". The supply chain support for 4G phone production is starting to fade away.

                        2) A boom for Mid-range 5G smartphones:
A new wave of mid-range SoCs are ready to kill the "flagship-killers". A first among these killer mid-range SoCs (rumored to be Dimensity 1100, 6nm process) is already in the hands of phone-makers. (D1100 comfortably outperforms SD865+, according to results from engineering testing samples.) A 'budget-flagship' killer such as this will be priced under $400 (or even under $300, as K30Ultra at 2000CNY, $285), and may start to enter the market as early as December 2020.

The traditional flagship-killer (a near bare-bone phone with a flagship SoC) will be replaced by a new type of phone with a near-flagship SoC but centered on "all-around near-flagship experience".

Don't confuse D1100 with D2000, the next generation flagship SoC from MediaTek.

5G chip for low end model. This is good news, I hope they maintain the price at 100 usd max.

"its chip will be up to 18% faster than a 15 W Intel Core i5 10th gen"
In the end nobody sees this benefit in real life because ARM64 Windows runs x86 apps quite terribly through emulation and cannot handle x64 apps at all. Not to mention that no developers are willing to optimise their Windows apps for ARM architectures because Microsoft is not forcing them to do so.
