KondriX, 04 Sep 2020Looks like nowadays people are buying phones just for games... moreNot really. There are definitely people out there who buy phones just for games, but surely majority out there are looking for a phone which offers the best price-to-performance. A phone which is good in both games and typical day to day tasks.
Snapdragons are usually better than Mediatek, but at the same time, more expensive and therefore, Mediatek's Dimensity series fits in that "price to performance" role.

joe nodden, 03 Sep 2020Ugh I was so excited when I read that it had the Dimensity ... morenot it says 1000c,

KondriX, 04 Sep 2020Looks like nowadays people are buying phones just for games... moreNowadays people buy smartphone with ALL IN ONE mindset. That is why even Android Tablet is affected too.

This is amazing by Mediatek. Yet another 5G chipset which looks quite cool and even the LG smartphone looks quite awesome.

Is this a dual-screen smartphone as well? I think the choice of new Mediatek Dimensity processor is really brilliant.

Another great addition to the Dimensity chipset series. MediaTek has been doing an amazing job with its Dimensity series and I am excited to witness the chipset in action. It will undoubtedly be extremely powerful

There was also Intel Atom processors in the mobile space for a while.

The sad thing I'm seeing on mobile gaming forums are people drooling over the Samsung Flip/Fold so they could multiwindow their mobile/gacha games. Most don't even need the latest and greatest and are just autoplay wallet burners which would work on any LG dual screen phones.

KondriX, 04 Sep 2020Looks like nowadays people are buying phones just for games... moreThose are just a minority of people and their opinions. Most of the consumer market buy 1000-2000 dollar phones to use like a sub-500 dollar midranger anyways.

First, you can find sources of every phones based on Mediatek available in western countries...it's very easy.
Second, these sources are enough to do the job. Indians developers released tons of custom Rom for Redmi Note 8 Pro.
European and US devs don't release a single one...

It seems Monopoly is seen as something positive by some people.

KondriX, 04 Sep 2020Looks like nowadays people are buying phones just for games... morewhy limit yourself to only pc, xbox, nintendo and ps? why not phone too? And theres no need to bash people for what genre of game play they prefer.

Looks like nowadays people are buying phones just for games, which is plain stupid I think.. Antutu this, antutu that.. My phone has 3000 more, means it's faster.. Faster at that? An opening an ap 0.0005 seconds faster? But it has higher numbers and that means better, faster, harder. Users are brainwashed with marketing gimmicks and corporations knows that. If you really are a gamer buy yourself a Xbox, PS, or a good PC, your experience will be much more enjoyable. Gaming on phones is.. :(

imparanoic, 04 Sep 2020Qualcomm has a virtual monopoly for the flagship and higher... moreExcept unlike the PC market, there are no real viable competitors to Qualcomm.

Exynos is terrible in terms of graphics performance and especially power consumption, Huawei wants to give up on Kirin because of the US blockades, Nvidia gave up on Tegra for Android (for some reason deciding to let Nintendo use it instead), and Mediatek is still near-universally hated because of the virtual impossibility to develop good or even ANY custom ROMs because of their refusal to release vital kernel and source codes.

Qualcomm got to where they are in the mobile space because they have the best-performing chipsets out there, especially for heavy gaming and network connectivity.

CliftonKMorris, 04 Sep 2020I remember when MediaTek infringed on Qualcomm R&D. ... moreYou don't even know what you are talking about!
Qualcomm refuse to licence at chipset level (there's some exceptions of cross licencing with Samsung for exemple). Qualcomm doesn't want to licence Mediatek.
Qualcomm forces to licence at device level, because it's more interessant to get 5% of devices price than 5% of soc's price.
Additionnaly it allows to put pressure on phone's manufacturers or to allow rebates to kick competitors (when you get for exemple 20dollars for licences on a mid range device, with a soc that cost less than 30 dollars!!!)
You should learn what is FRAND and what are duties of such a patent...and how Qualcomm doesn't care!.

Please tell me how many time Qualcomm was condemned for abusive and anticompetitive behavior about patents?
Please tell me for exemple why NVIDIA no longer build soc for smartphones...linked to Qualcomm's behavior, not Mediatek's
Or why Intel no longer build soc for smartphones...linked to Qualcomm's behavior, not Mediatek's
Or why LG never released his own chipset...linked to Qualcomm's behavior, not Mediatek's.

With patents, Qualcomm decides to kill other companies business...including strong ones like Intel or NVIDIA.
