I received an update on my HTC Incredible S and I can really say that it has slowed down my device. Although I was thrilled to receive the upgrade at first, I feel bad about it now

Thanks to HTC my next phone is likely to be an iPhone. My experience with HTC as a hardware provider and Android as the OS platform has been lack lustre to say the least - this whole thing is SO mickey mouse. All this is like the early days of computing and doing a "build your own". I want something that works, is well supported and well integrated. While my HTC Desire S works - it fails on the other two objectives. HTC - once an OEM always an OEM.

This is the last time I ever spend a single half-penny on any object ever produced in the history (and future) of mankind. When I fork out my hard earned coins for something made of plastic and wire (with a few bits of glass and metal added as a bonus) I demand a personal man-servant from the manufacturer to follow me around and bow down to my every product-based whim. That's exactly what happened when I bought a VHS recorder from Sony 20 years ago. This whole sorry charade reminds me of the horror I experienced in the mid 80s: I thought I'd bought a pair of good quality kitchen scissors held together with a zinc-plated rivet. I was the envy of the entire planet and I walked down the street sooo smug (never run with scissors). How humiliated did I feel when the next year all my friends (and some of my enemies) started buying kitchen scissors with nickel plated rivets. Erm, what was my original point? Oh, yes. Mobile telephones. Anyway, I never want to hear another word from HTC, they've messed up their relationship with me over this. I'm a true ex-customer now and I can't imagine any other biped falling for their mind games ever again.
Oh, what's that? The ICS update is back on? Oh, right. In that case I love HTC. Well done guys keep up the good work. Maybe you should consider yourself lucky you still have customers. Oh, and I want you to bring out a yellow version of the Desire HD2 please, k thx bye!

This is why I would wait for a Windows Phone 8. Guaranteed updates for at least 18 months. Plus you get Microsoft Office for free.

I have refused to buy a single HTC product since the day they treated their staunch supporters of the HTC desire with such poor support - remember their so called developer based " Ice Cream sandwich" update. I rather go for a company that "design phones for humans" then one who designs phones for "suckers" - unsuspecting customers like us.

this is one more bullshit from htc i hope nobody will buy htc again at least i know that i will never buy an htc phone again and i used to be a big htc fun :S but after all this things going on discriminating their users with not getting an updates how can you be a htc fun knowing that if you buy a new phone you wont get any updates :S

[deleted post]agree, +1 to that.
When I rooted and flashed my custom ROM, I didn't even bother to find out how to revert it back to stock. Custom ROM is simply too amazing to revert back.
Anyway, you don't buy a device expecting it to get the latest and greatest. For me, I buy a device for what it is at that point of purchase. If it still has GB, then I will take it as if the device will not get ICS, let alone JB, but if it does, then it will be a sweet bonus for me. Anyway, it's not as if your device will stop working if it doesn't have the latest OS. Remember, even Froyo is miles ahead of iOS 6, ICS and JB have many features of which more than 50% of them you won't even notice and/or use.
Get over the update hype. Only iOS devices need updates, Android devices don't really need them, because they are already awesome straight out of the box! The only updates we need is patches (be it security or stability patches).

Anonymous, 16 Jul 2012No he wasnt refering to S1 alone, and i know and i used and... moreyea yea , great speech mate.
define "get screwed" , you buy a phone because you like the feature on it, not for an update, old nokia owners dont yapping for update? if you want to get update, go buy nexus device, that way youll get an update.
besides, people dont screwed when they dont get an update , man my friend dont even know the version of android his phone running -,- only geeks like us ,who waits for updates.i know about rooting and custom rom , and i use one, rom based on stock but it have minimal modification for smoothness and battery live. i too dont like heavily customized rom and prefer close to stock looks.
if you want to do something , go compile your own rom and do good for community , bashing and swearing on internet wont get your phone udpated either way.

[deleted post]No he wasnt refering to S1 alone, and i know and i used and flash plenty of custom ROM but as i mentioned in my comment, "WHY" why should i get screwed and do nothing about Android and the companies like HTC/Samsung will screw the customers with each update... there is a lot of people who knows about the Rooting/Flashing and custom ROM but simply they choose not to do it because they have rights to receive updates,,, not to get screwed
