windows 8 and windows phone 8 will have this ecosystem. that's one of the keys of nokia's future success. if they have stayed with symbian, their smartphones won't be that worth and powerful as android. and if people mean to elop developing symbian to make it as good as android, that is not easy especially for a company which just underwent transition. If nokia pursued for symbian, Nokia would have to do a major overhaul to the OS or even the need to rewrite the whole symbian os to make it on par with android, as what windows has done TWICE (windows phone 6.5 is to wp7 and windows phone7.5 or 7.8 is to windows phone 8). and developing apps for symbian is not as easy as programming apps on android. these early lumia series are just phones for introducing nokia-windows partnership. plus, despite of the loss, nokia is actually doing good. remember that a company during and months after transition period is expected to have great operating loss, Economic Studies during high school and college anyone?

Symbian is still useable and no-one on here has posted why its not functional because they have not tried it..Its nippy on Belle and 808 has 1.3GHz proccessor and dedicated CPU,s.It still works as smartphone .
So why is Nokia in bad state?
1)They did not bring out an updated N95 8Gb update nor an E90 update which many of us emailed Nokia begging..They brought out the ill fated N97 which they said was the new communicator (E90) but how wrong were they.First of wrong doings
2)They tried to make a touchscreen and it worked well with 5800 music express sellion millions ..It had stylus input which many loved..BUT future sets had RAM deficiencies and were slow to use and had low C-Disk space so that was that nail in that coffin..
3)They did a big overhaul of Symbian and brought us S^3 but they had another flaw. The Broadcom GPU was a powerfull unit but they give it,GUESS WHAT,not enough memory so altho the power was their the memory available caused out memory errors..These were interpreted as out of RAM errors or C-Disk errors but NO it was the GPU memory running out.So they started to go slow.Another nail in coffin.
4)Elop comes in and destroys Symbian in one swoop but Nokia has only its series 40 and Meego platforms left, plus some dumbfones so that was another HUGE nail in coffin,
5)Nokia decides to go windows and drops Meego so another O/S scuppered.just about last nail in coffin.
6)Android had arrived and having Symbians full flexbility and customisations won the hearts of millions.another nail in coffin.
So its a big lot of things as to why Nokia is in this state..They should do W7 and Android..My goodness PureView with Android and Nokias proven microphones/speakers and clearblack display is a winner.

I am one of an old WP user.
Windows didn't care their customers. Windows slowed down the smart phone business. Limited their users!!!
Then Android came and now look at the smart phone business!
Then Nokia chose WinMo! Why you limit yourselves with the one OS? Like Samsung, HTC, give a chance to Android as well!
Microsoft responded too late and lost all smart phone users and now Nokia is trying to be succesful with Winmo. Very poor strategy.
Work with number one, not the abandoned one!

even with so much negative news surrounding window 7 and negative environment created by rating agencies Nokia is managing to hang on and sell 4 million lumia handset. . . Hang in there baby just one more tough quarter and the world will see Window 8 along with pure view. . . Good time is just around the corner.

AnonD-24171, 19 Jul 2012Nokia can not compete they are just a below average manufac... moreNokia dominated the sales of smartphones nd feature phones for that matter in 2010. That's pre Elop. Back then, Samsung was already making a range of cellphone models.
Who do you call below average manufacturer? I don't think you're born just yesterday.

Nokia and MS want to do the same what Apple did with the first iPhone; its OS was restrictive but it was selling like hot cakes. Now, MS wants to do the same, but conditions on the market has changed from then, and that's what dudes from MS still don't realize. Back then the closest competition to iPhone were Nokias with Symbian S60v5, which weren't hard to beat by iPhone. Today, the competition for MS is much tougher, its competitors are Android with vast varieties of platforms and customization options and iOS, and both of them are wayy better than Symbian from old days. So, sorry MS and Nokia, those tactics worked only once with iPhone, but not anymore.
