Flashback: the Nexus 4 cost less than half what the Pixel 5 costs, but it had a flagship chipset

04 October 2020
Something that the Pixel 5 can't say. The Nexus 4 was one of the first flagship killers and a feat that Google seems unable to repeat.

Sort by:

The Galaxy S20 FE has the same price and also a flagship CPU.

What's the point of this article? Just a hit piece on the Pixel 5?

I had the Nexus 4, it was a piece of crap:

    - atrocious battery life, literally would last 3/4 of a day if you're lucky
    - terrible camera
    - bugs galore in the software
    - anaemic storage with no option to expand

It's the reason why I ditched Google phones, because it was a complete turd. And now finally it kinda looks like Google are making a decent phone and we get this garbage article comparing a junk phone that wasn't good at anything but had a 'flagship chipset' (big deal?) vs a phone that looks decent but just doesn't happen to have a flagship chipset?

I don't even like Pixels, but this article is just garbage.

The S4 Pro was and still is a very good chip, good enough to later use in the Nexus 7 and then even later, the Nexus 7 lte, I still use my nexus 7 lte quite often, it still flies along, its been flashed with a very light, stripped out version of kitkat. The Nexus 7 was a true flagship killer, cos there was nothing even close at the price, the makers models they were based on cost almost twice as much in the UK.
Nexus was the only hardware that Google got right, but as usual, not making a vast profit for the short armed, deep pocketed boys at Google, so they did what they ALWAYS do with hardware, killed it off.
Pixel are rubbish, wouldn't have one even at half the price, I expect Google to kill off pixel after the next version, still doesn't make enough profit, even with the cheap components used.

        1,5cm slim bezel lol

Glad I skipped this phone. The nexus 5 was a big leap in chipset, resolution, connectivity and camera.

            Nexus flagship killer?
Did not kill any flagship of its time.

It actually he had 4g that you could get it you changed the radios but the battery died in 1 hour sot

That’s because there were not that many tech youtubers back then.
Now, Google cares more in pandering these tech tubers by sending them fancy packaging than actually giving consumers good products. And the tech tubers will also pander to Google, and will praise anything Google do because Google owns the platform they ar emailing money from.

Ah yes, the nexus 4. More powerful and with more ram than the galaxy s3, yet less space for music, ps1 roms, android games (which were awesome back then) and videos+photos. Still a good net phone.

I have vivid memories of this phone. I had asked my friend studying in the US to get one for me here in India. I was on a very tight budget so decided to order a 8 GB storage variant. I would flaunt it proudly back then. It was made by LG

The nexus never has a chance, unless you came from apple. The iphone didn't have a card slot either.
