Flashback: the Nexus 4 cost less than half what the Pixel 5 costs, but it had a flagship chipset

04 October 2020
Something that the Pixel 5 can't say. The Nexus 4 was one of the first flagship killers and a feat that Google seems unable to repeat.

Let me guess y'all trying to blame Google for not using a flagship chipset on the pixel 5 like other OEMs?

potato4k, 04 Oct 2020That’s because there were not that many tech youtubers back... more"..Now, Google cares more in pandering these tech tubers by sending them fancy packaging than actually giving consumers good products."
I think you are confusing Google with OnePlus. The tech-Youtubers think the 'plastic' Pixel 4a is just meh and good enough only because its cheap while the same YouTubers think the 'plastic' Nord with its deceptive metal finish, is some innovation breakthrough even though it snaps in a durability test..

Ya but the Nexus also had sub par cameras, and skimped out on battery life, vibration motor, etc. As far as I know, Pixels have one of the best vibration motors and if stats of the Pixel 4a are anything to go by, the battery I'm sure has been rectified to a large extent on the Pixel 5, and the camera is one of the best in the world, if not the best. And moreover, 90% of people who use pixel phones anyway don't buy it for the raw power of the processor anyway. And considering how powerful the 765G is, I'm sure it will be more than ample for most users. So on the contrary, I think it's a very smart move by Google

That's what I have always been saying. Nexus was better than pixel, in every way.

The nexus 4 was an okay phone for the price at the time. The battery life was atrocious though.

The high end chipset was the only good thing that phone had going for it to be completely honest... And I had one of those.

                            those beautiful days !!

I'm telling you. We've gone downhill from there. Those phones were beautiful and there ergonomics, let's leave it here.

I had the Nexus 4 and it had a lot of forward thinking features like face unlock. The biggest thing holding it back was the lack of 4g and was the major reason I stopped using it. The size was perfect for one handed use and the build quality was excellent.

Ahem... it had a subsidized price on the Google Store and a flagship price everywhere else. It wasn't a cheap phone when I went to buy one at a LG brick and mortar store.

Maybe Google figured out giving away phones wasn't really a good idea.

Chipsets is overrated. I had a Nexus 5x. The darn phone couldn't take a photo after sunset worth a darn. So photos after 5pm when my job was done was impossible. And battery life was only half a day.
