Anonymous, 27 Jul 2012ALL companies report shipped numbers. and shipped can b... moreI recall that Samsung couldn't satisfy industry orders from their current production rate, so much so that they are opening new factories to cope with demand. With that in mind, is it likely that the goods shipped are collecting dust at the consumer side? My computer, monitor, and vast amounts of electronics has some Samsung chip inside.

Gosh, what a difference between Samsung's refrigerator division vs their mobile cell division. It's like night and day. The more I hear about Samsung mobile division the more I feel like they are rightfully getting sued. They are cheap, copycats and the biggest weasel in the market when it comes to true numbers. Samsung will never discuss about sold devices unlike Apple does to twist and pull tricks on the numbers to make us believe they are actually doing better. Look at the bottom line profit of Apple's $8.8 billions vs Samsung's $4.6 billions explains everything. Now we are here talking about it again like Samsung has something to hide behind that snake thief of a company. I'm sorry but this is just one of the examples why I despise such company.

AnonD-5197, 27 Jul 2012But Apple also sells to other distribution channels than it... moreThat would be fraud because sales of units effect stock share values of company , numbers which in turn effect economy , if apple posts such false claims being worlds most valuable company , then it sure gets leaked or investigated , samsung on other handkeeping this as secret because their numbers are bad except for galaxy s3 , so they make shipped volume always , i remember when they said they shipped x number of tabs but only 10 or 20% of them were sold.
Apple sells in many countries , 150+ carriers and many retailers like amazon , walmart , best buy etc , so that shows apple also sells through lot many 3rd part sources added to their own premium resellers.not to forget , they posted sales numbers.

Apple also sells products through many retailers and 150+ carriers worldwide , but it posts sold volume , CNET once clarified this doubt but made same mistake in this quarter.
Shipped doesnt mean it is sold , but assuming sold number is shipments then this validation is correct but samsung case , that is truely false to every phone except galaxy s3 , 113 galaxy models and variants pop up if u search gsmarena , out of them only 4 phone variants of galaxy s3 model ,sells well but next quarter that doesnt happen anymore as it gets old by then and new phones pop up , so by default this auumption is wrong as assuming only 30-40 models are being currently in production for galaxy line and only 4 of them sell well , which means only 1 out of 4 models sell very well , but remaining 3 stick to shelves.

I'm sure they can keep track of sales in their stores fine, but they'll know as much as other companies when selling through Best Buy, Walmart, etc. They didn't specify how much % is shipped to this channel so there is no way of knowing whether what Apple stated is actual "sales" numbers or mix of shipped and sales.
I think they ship a lot more to other retails than their own since there are far more Best Buys and all these huge stores. But I'm not an insider so...
Also, Apple using the word "sold" to describe "shipped" is perfectly appropriate. Just because they used the word "sold" doesn't mean they really sold everything.

ALL companies report shipped numbers.
and shipped can be shipped to the warehouse, and not sold to retailers yet. but waiting for order.

Samsung also same , they have official samsung stores called samsung plaza or some name , and distributers.

Shipped means volume reached to carriers and retailer chains while sold volume means , phones which were sold to consumers.
