Apple reportedly had to choose between 5G and 120Hz for iPhone 12 lineup and it picked 5G

Both increase power draw from the battery and having both would have had a major impact on endurance.

[deleted post]Samsung is not the only supplier of these components.

LG , Boe, Visionox and China Star have oled for mobile.
Toshiba sells UFS memory, there is another company that even announced UFS3.1 before Samsung.
Samsung is not only supplier of memory RAM.
Sony and Omnivision sell cmos.

Apple no longer uses Samsung Isocell on iphones. Just Sony exmor.

If a VP told Steve Jobs we have to choose between 5g and 120hz, Jobs would answer "I choose both" and throw him out.

I am at this point absolutely shocked, atleast for another 3 years 5g will be the most useless feature,it makes the price of phones way more expensive without doing anything, and they opted for it for 120hz display

So can't we expect from trillion dollars company and most expensive smartphones which company sells to have latest features or some innovation?
Naa not talking about high refresh rate or 5G.
But why don't they make graphine batteries? Why no fast charging? Under display camera, or small pill shaped punch hole like p40pro, pop up etc.? They removed 3D touch too.

Most 120hz phones can't do 120hz at native resolution. iPhones run at higher resolutions than most phones. So it would deffo kill the battery.

Just put in a bigger battery = problem solved. Why create a problem to find a solution in the first place.

Stokes, 12 Oct 2020So.. they picked a feature that is not really even useful f... moreIn the UK its widespread in all major cities, also on top of that the prices for 5g contracts arent as expensive as people made out. The fact is if you paying £700 or more you shoukd have 5g heck even £300 devices are getting 5g from Samsung. All Apple did was add 1 new feature and charge alot and next year add 120hz and charge even more, they a business they care about their profits not their users.

Difference between apple and other companies
Other companies - Lets pick both feature and price the phone fairly so that users can have a good experience with the phone
Apple - Let's pick any one feature randomly, coz why give users better value for money when the primary aim of the company since the foundation has been to milk money from overrated phones :-)

One gimmick or another? At the moment neither of these make a real difference in real life, there are other areas to improve..

Anonymous, 12 Oct 2020There is 5G in China, where Apple wants to grow more. 5G ... moreThat's just the standard snake oil. In fact, most of the 5G speeds outside Asia are in the realm of 4G. Actually, 4G in Europe is faster than 99% of the 5G in the USA. And of course consumers who don't know that will be super excited about 1Gbps speeds and in fact will be lucky to get persistent 50-100mbps speeds.

This is supposedly not a major issue. They can just add a bigger battery and an adaptive refresh rate if they wanted to. Given the price that iPhones were being sold at, this shouldn't be "impossible" in any means but one way to keep more profit was to lessen raw materials (as much as possible) but still continuing to drive the prices-up.

Apple could pick both of them and many more. And price it lower. Greedy company with no innovation.

And the standard 4G speeds where I live are in the 80-130 mbps range, which is more than enough for a phone for years to come as you can stream 4k movies, use xcloud and other game streaming services without a problem.

What I'm guessing is that people would be more upset with not having 5G then not having a 120hz screen.

But what would I care I left Apple back in April.
