One Plus started out as a company delivering good quality phones at lower prices.
Now, they ventured into flagship territory, where Samsung or Apple were already established as leaders of that sector. Is also very difficult for them to return to mid-range or entry level sectors, because companies like Xiaomi or Realme are there now and they have better offerings.
So, maybe Carl Pei just wants to do something for himself (start his own business or something), but imo I think he smells a sinking ship and doesn't want to be part of it.

Personally for me, I rather take a new mobile OS instead of a new brand using a popular mobile OS.

You should see their kindergarten "annual reports" - perfect example of money loosing company that someone keeps pumping money into, in their case BBK. This company would not last three months on the market on it's own.

What OnePlus is today is all cause of this guy! And he leaving the company one day before it's major launch event speaks volumes. Wish Carl Pei makes something hotter than OnePlus!

coincidentally oneplus is suddenly starting to loose it´s appeal.

Nord didn´t live to teh expectations and now the new mid to low end devices.....

when you realize that your company is no longer famous for flagship killer prices

Chinese corporations are not like Western organisations they work beyond the face of the promoters. Hedge all risks across the board. No one will even notice who has come and who has left. Just look at Samsung, so many top level shakes, that too frequently, yet nothing impacts for the consumers wrt brand offerings and the quality, price etc.. this may be a big news in personality centric western world, but well oiled machines don’t bother about these

Co-founder leaving the company just before the launch of 1+ 8T ?! Hmmm..interesting to say the least. It has been a bad year for 1+ with 8 & 8 Pro not doing good & Nord just sent it even lower, but this departure would have to do with something else..
Carl was clearly an outsider, born & brought up in Sweden, whereas Lau was well-versed with the Chinese machinery at Oppo, becoming the head of OPLUS too, looks like he's taking the company in a completely different direction than the original vision..

Google should snap him up, he did better then Google al these years.
Not counting the recent Nord which I think missed the mark, and recent OP mobiles have gone up in price so much it lost its base users.

He'd rather put the name of the company to OneMinus just to be sarcastic.

                                      Good decision.
He should work with Google to promote their pixel devices. It will be a win win situation for both. Pixel is the most closest to one plus but it need better distribution and commercial appeal.
