Apple iPhone 12 and 12 mini are official with OLED displays, 5G

The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini are here - A14 Bionic, OLED screens, 5G and better cameras.

The iPhone 12 mini is the only winner for me. Will get the cheapest one at 64 GB. Most of my stuff I can stream on Google Photos. Get it in black. Not a huge iOS fan. But the iPhone 12 mini makes more sense than a Pixel 5 for the same price.

    USB 2.0 in 2020 seriously apple😲

Just because it's fine for you doesn't mean it's fine for everyone, likewise, just because it's bad for me doesn't mean it's bad for everyone, I think there's a serious consistency problem with their chips.

Secondly, if the processor is down clocking so low that the phone is barely usable for an extra 10mins, what's the point? This is a whole new level of extreme, remember it down clocks itself anyway when on standby or light load so it's not like I'm gaining the ability to answer a call on low charge or anything new. I'm literally just scrolling some text here, if it downclocks so hard that I can barely do that, something's wrong.

I think it's more than just "oh it's meant to do that it's just saving power".

The amount of high end or even midrange mini phones you can buy today is literally zero, despite there being a market for it (iPhone SE 1st gen was an unexpected success for example being both reasonably priced and compact).

I've been using Android for a while now but I'm fed up with big phones. For the first time ever, I'm seriously considering preorder ing a phone and an iPhone at that, despite its restrictions compared to Android just because they're actually offering a decent size for me. :)

I had the Galaxy Note 9(Exynos) as well.
Never experienced any lagging or stuttering in any part of the UI.
          Don't know about S10.

The lagging you talk about when
in low battery mode might have to do with power saving modes turned on. Samsung might be downclocking the processor in those modes.

[deleted post]S10 owner here. When the battery's very low or when the phone's just finished a heavy workload and is warm, it stutters like crazy literally scrolling slowly on a webpage in Samsung Internet unless I either charge it or leave it to cool down for a bit (depending on the cause, obviously).

The exynos hate is at least partially warranted. This kind of experience is unacceptable for a high-end priced phone. And when I say stutters like crazy, I mean sub-5fps stuttering - it's easy to notice.

If it was priced slightly lower than the snapdragon counterpart then we wouldn't really be complaining, but offering an inferior product for the same (or higher!) price depending on which country you buy it is just bad.

The only thing i noticed is old features from android phones in 2019 being added like its some sort of futuristic tech lol. Apple is con company. So many android phones already have these features and even better features.

Once again Apple has come out with a belter. After the SE 2020, it's great to see another small compact phone, even if it has to be on Apple (boo). All those useless Android manufacturers should wake up and smell the coffee, there is a market out there for proper feature-rich mini phones. Why is there still no real Android equivalent? (Xperia 5 II doesnt count - it's too long).

Mom's Note 9 already lagging in multitasking.

BB, 13 Oct 2020Hahahaha so they won't even bother including a charger... moreThey support both USB-C (via the Lightning cable) and Qi wireless charging (Qi + magnets = "Magsafe").
Customers can then choose one or the other, and does not get a "useless" USB-C charger if they choose Qi.

It does likely support the standard USB Power Delivery protocol (which the iPhone 11 family did), so any USB-PD capable charger should work for fast-charging.

Another reason is that the European Union has been working on standardising phone chargers. By doing this, I think that Apple is trying to nudge the EU towards standardising the USB-PD protocol with USB-C in the charger rather than on the connector in the phone.

Interesting phone. Planning to upgrade as soon as it comes out. I just dislike the dated design, that's all. Didn't expect price to creep up.

Imagine a world where only iPhone exist. That would gonna be boring....
                          .
Thank goodness we have android.... 😁

"The A14 Bionic can deliver 80% faster machine learning than the A13 Bionic with a reported support for 11 trillion operations per second - which would enable faster performance from Face unlock to camera operation"

Hmm all that power just to open your camera faster or face unlock? SMH.

Where is the HRR display where A14 Bionic can actually push those higher framerates?
Where is the 8k video recording?
                            Where is the 4k120 option?
Where is the 960fps super slow motion recording?
Where are the multiple levels of multitasking (like you see on Android) to take advantage of that bionic chip?

Instead they are focusing on improving IP68 rating from 4m to 6m.
Literally nobody cares about this. For most people 1.5m is more than enough.

The only interesting thing here is the Mini. A brand new mini phone coming from Apple means that we may see a resurgence of mini phones from the likes of Sony & others. That would be nice.
