Ben, 21 Oct 2020Manufacturers can reduce more on plastic usage if they wide... moreI disagree. An example is that with two model launched in a year (with the latter being the successor), they produced 50000 units each (total 100000 units), and with only one model to produce in a longer period, they simply produce 100000 units of it. So I don't think there will be a significant drop in plastic usage or whatsoever but reducing the gap where a model is launched.

This is good and about time. I'm sick of seeing phones unboxed and everything inside the box is pointlessly covered in plastic film or little plastic bags, none of which is recyclable.

Ben, 21 Oct 2020Manufacturers can reduce more on plastic usage if they wide... moreI agree. The problem are Android apps are evolving (resource hungry and not efficent) so fast that make the phones lag and the phone's hardware are mostly not upgradeable or replaceable unlike laptop and computer. Not to mention what will happen if the phone gets heavy accident.
Flagship phones are too expensive for many middle income people to afford. Mid ranges with lifespan at least 3 years are the best choice in my opinion...

Manufacturers can reduce more on plastic usage if they widen the gap of producing new models. Manufacturers are wise enough to put those little upgrades to new models every now and then instead of consolidating them into a single model. This is purely business. They knew that a lot of people wants to keep with the latest model and are willing to discard a functional and not so old phone in favor of this models. Why not just extend a longer support to the phones to discourage people from replacing phone and thus reduce the use of plastics.

The only Xiaomi phones worth buying are their midrange and budget ones like Mi 10T Lite or Redmi Note 9 series
