Unlike Samsung, Apple, Huawei and... morerx100 1" sensor in a phone? that's nokia 808 territory using 1/1.2” at 14mm thick, i doubt any photo orientated phone with 1" camera sensor as that means the phone will be as thick as 16-17mm, it will be a technically impressive, but a commerical failure as it won't sell

Unlike Samsung, Apple, Huawei and other, Sony has many products that can overlap each other. Canibalize own sales inside the company.
An Xperia with same capabilities of RX100 and walkman would kill both. Why would somebody pay $1200 on Walkman (yes, there is one that costs this much) and more $700 on Cybershot if you could pay $1200 on one product that can replace both and do tons of other stuff?

Cannot be used on phone. note that asian only onkyo dp-cmx1 uses 2.5mm balanced which is the same as 4.4mm balanced, just different size, that's why need either ft capicators which are slim, but more expensive, while they could use os con capicators which ensure sufficent power for both 3.5mm and 4.4mm balanced, but the problem with that is that the phone will be as thick as 14-15mm as os con capicators are really big, hence why, nw-zx1, nw-zx100, even the nw-zx2 has a bulge

It is only marketing work and compan... more Sony could change their focus from as a few sony walkman engineers were assign to improve the audio quality during the re-introduction of the 3.5mm unbalanced jack within xperia 1ii and 5ii, but he stated that if sony managers allow him, he wants to create an ultimate walkman phone with using tech from their audiophile range nw-zx507 and nw-a107, if he is allowed, imagine a thicker phone maybe as thick as 11 or 12mm (needs to be thicker to implement ft /high polymer capacitors for better and silent power supply (get rid of sibilance which is harsh s-s sounds ), gold plated shielding of audio components, even 4.4 mm balanced output for harder to drive headphones, maybe even back to machined milled aluminium which the xperia z2 uses as this more ridged and stronger chassis to improve the sound quality, or even better combination of sony usage of kobe metal for their special ALKALEIDO alloy (which is xz, xzs, zx1 uses, different to conveniential aluminium) alloy but machined milled better ridgity.

Sony over the years have pioneer many featues but they have a problem not advertising them, first phone with water proofing - xperia active, first phone to 960fps ultra slow motion -xperia XZs, first phone with cec compatible mode where you can control the phone with tv remote - xperia ion 2012 (samsung took this to another level with DeX though), first phone with high bitrate wireless/ high res wireless audio - xperia z3 plus/z4 2015, first 4k phone xperia xz premium 2015

You can have both 3.5mm jack AND use a Wireless headset if you want, and it cost next to nothing to have the 3.5 mm jack. And you literally are not gaining anything by having it removed.
Only stupid people believe the claims of "muh extra 100 mah" when we have devices like the A51, Zenfone 6, M31 that have a headphone jack and a huge battery at the same time.

Sony stopped making compacts because difference in sales of Compact and bigger phones started to increase a lot.
XZ1 was very popular in Japan, unlike XZ1c.
XZ2c is worst seller of Xperia history.
There will not be a 21:9 screen below 15cm.
Too narrow to use Pro apps.
5ii is as wide as Comapcts, now imagine using Cinema Pro on a phone narrow like iphone 5. Impossible

Sony is realistically only known for 2 things in the mobile space. Their Compact models which were a fresh thing in space where everyone is making bigger and bigger everything and great imaging sensors. Their smartphones however never really crossed my mind. They just never stood out by anything and they were always priced ridiculously high.

I dropped the wires 3 years ago and will never come back to them. Yes, Sony's smartphone business problem consists in lack of attention to it which includes ridiculous price, availability, lack of features (or at least lack of unique feature that Xperias would do better than others), not the best warranty service.

No surprise that their biggest peak was when they released the Z3 Compact.
Hopefully the iPhone 12 mini sells well and they try to make a proper compact Android flagship to compete.

Imx555 is for Samsung Mobile.
Imx557 is for Xperia.
Iphones have exclusive sensors.
Huawei has exclusive sensors.
Most OEMs choose to buy sensors from open portfolio like 586, 686, and 363 because they are cheaper.
There is no 689 is best sensor. Sensors have positive points and negative.
Resolution, readout speed, noise performance, DR etc ...
There are sensors better at something , while other are better at something else.
