iPhone 12 cameras can only be replaced by official Apple technicians, 12 Pro is unaffected

If you take the camera out of a brand new iPhone 12, put it in another new iPhone 12 and you'll run into inexplicable issues.

Peo... moreWhile I would "generally" agree where your argument is going but it's herd-mentality when you justify an argument based on how many people replaces their camera module (happens only rarely but it can happen). The main question should be referred to this:

"Starting with the iPhone 12 series, changing the display and camera requires the use of the System Configuration tool, which will connect to Apple’s servers before reprogramming the new component to work properly."

System configuration tool doesn't even need to be done server-side, for reasons unbeknownst to us, it's only Apple can explain "why" but this move from Apple truly has an immediate effect to the repair industry all over the world, don't you think?

Or they spared the Pro model because it's already more expensive and most people buy the non-pro.

But from the article, the 12 was affected but not the 12 Pro.
So do you think they rushed out the 12 Pro & forgot to pair the cameras to the board?

They start with components people don't need to replace often and use security as an excuse. Later, when people fell for it, they will move on to other components. They already did it for battery and display, now camera. Next is the volume and lock buttons, mark my words.

People replace battery often, so more cash for Apple.

How many people do you know replace their camera modules?
            Be honest with your answer.

annoying customer, 31 Oct 2020Mean android lolI mean what I said. I never ever need to replace a camera in my phone.
I have never ever met any iphone users who had to replace their iphone's cameras.

Apple is motivated by greed/profit, so if their users never need to replace their camera modules then there is no incentive for them to block cameras replacement.

Of course, maybe Apple had designed the cameras to fail after a certain period of time & thus force their users to replace the camera modules. Maybe?

You are either naive or ignorant about years of anti repair practices and efforts of Apple, which then are being copied by Samsung and others.

the only good thing about apple is just build quality.
everything else is bad in comparison.

khaldoon, 31 Oct 2020Sorry if I am going to sound rude, but it always amazes me ... morePrecisely, why aren't apple users fighting for their own right? I can't comprehend how their brains work.

Instead we see "my phone lasts 5years", "well, don't drop it", "buy mercedes".
(antenna gate, bend gate, downclocking) - the same people are still defending Apple

I don't praise Samsung at all, and i buy their flagship everytime. Instead, i want more out of my purchase and not the other way around

I've never seen this level consumer behaviour before
