Techcent, 07 Nov 2020Dimensity is not heating like snapdragon I definitely agree with that. Mediatek processor are pretty much budget yet they don't heat.

It's coming from someone who owns a galaxy a12 and a nokia G10 both equipped with Mediatek chips

MediaTek's chips are perfect for low and middle range phones. I believe Huawei will tap Intel or Qualcomm for high end chips.. for p and mate series. Definitely Washington will grant QUALCOMM a license soon

It is nice because consumers will have feature oriented and affordable 5G phones.

Its high time. I have been waiting for Dimensity series since it was launched.

Anonymous, 03 Nov 2020It'd be great if they launch it globaly.... It's going to be globally

Dometalican, 03 Nov 2020I actually agree with this. Sure, it's annoying to giv... moreThe issue is that Chinese people/businesses inherently do not trust other Chinese people/businesses. That's the natural result of having a very competitive environment, sprinkled with lots of first-impression value, and a political party favouritsm.

So if Huawei collaborate with MediaTek, and they develop some current technology based Kirin SoC's, with simply the MTK sticker labelled on it... HiSilicon is going to want to keep that exclusive to only Huawei flagships and Honor phones. MediaTek is (at a certainty) going to take that technology and simply sell it off to Xiaomi, ZTE, Oppo, etc etc devices.

But a half victory, is better than defeat. So Huawei is just going to have to accept it.
Until USA bans MediaTek, and then they're going to have to buy Samsung/Qualcomm chips for a little while. Then a few years later, they're going to come out with their own copied-designs based on copied-lithography.

That's what I would do if I was in the shoes of China/CCP/Huawei/etc etc. Heck the USA was the biggest intellectual property thief (from Europeans) during the 19th century. Things were more even playing field in the 20th century. Yet, in the 21st century the USA absolutely dominates in funding and producing innovations.

Sure, it's annoying to give out your schematics to a third-party but to see a Huawei-exclusive Dimmensity 1150 (or something) and 700 series (to reflect Kirin) would make all the sense in the world. That combo of AI would be interesting.

It makes a lot of sense though. To be blunt, if you put Huawei's custom-design ISP (which they could send Mediatek the blueprint of) on top of a Mediatek SoC then there you essentially have a Kirin SoC sans some minor differences.

Diversification is good strategy. Further down the list of fabless chip makers is Shanghai's Unisoc, formerly Spreadtrum. Similar to Mediatek's reputation in the past,, Unisoc has been making chipsets for ultra-budget segement. But it too has made a foray into 5G with their Tiger chipsets (no less than 6 nm), which recently made quite a buzz. It won't be long until these make their way into the likes of Xiaomi etc.

Really waiting for Dimensity 1000+ based inexpensive Android Tablet.... Samsung is all good, but Tab S -series is wayyyyy too expensive and Huawei's don't get GMS/google play support anymore.
